My opinion is quite prejudiced, I'll be the first to admit. People supposedly change, and grow, over the years. Maybe this has been the case with Jim O'Brien. But my main memory dates back to when I was an undergraduate at St. Joe's. I graduated in 1973, one year before O'Brien did. All I remember is the arrogance of this...person. O'Brien had never met me, didn't know squat about me, and yet took it upon himself to mock me in public. I don't remember over what, but I remember thinking, "Who the fuck do you think you are?" He was part of the St. Joe's basketball squad of the era. Big friggin' deal. I was pretty laid back in those days. I was non-confrontational. Thinking back, I sort of wish I had bashed his head in. He was a "jock" in all the worst meanings of the word. He was full of himself. Just a real d**k. It's been more than 30 years, and no, I don't obsess over it. But I remember it...clearly. I don't remember all that much about my college life. But I remember that incident. What an a*hole he was. I didn't know this guy from Adam, and he didn't know me...and still, he had to spout off some crap. Maybe Jim O'Brien has seen the light. Maybe he's become a better person after all these years. Based on what I've seen during his tenure as coach of the Celtics and the Sixers, I doubt it. Can't imagine why any pro team, or college team, or high school team, or CYO team, would hire this guy.

I don't support the firing of Jim O'Brien. He didn't get along with the Philly Press? Who cares, he won ten more games then the year before and led the team back to the playoffs. Sam Dalembert was mad about his playing time? Who cares - that's just a clueless 23 year old just learning the game. Rocking the boat again in Philly after they finally were buying into a new system just doesn't make any sense to me. **Jim O'Brien has taken an unbelievable amount of heat from the Philadelphia media, including Stephen A. Smith calling for his firing with about two weeks left in the season. Of course, what Stephen A. missed in his analysis is that the Sixers won 10 more games than last year, won 8 of their final 10, and qualified for the playoffs for the first time since Larry Brown was here (another coach that Stephen A. tried to run out of town). I think O'Brien has done a good job, especially when you consider he was introducing a whole new system. Unfortunately for him and the Sixers, Detroit is the worst possible first round match up.

Great for Philly. He was the best thing to come to the Celtics since Larry Bird. Took a joke of a team and turned them into competitors - the Celtics had a great run in the playoffs last year and they did that with two moderate stars and a bunch of stiffs. The Celtics have made some ridiculous moves over the past few years. When they get something good they immediately get rid of it. Woah - we have an opportunity to have a succesful team this year - we can't have that! Let's trade Antoine Walker for Paul Pope Owens. Let's get rid of a potential young star like Chauncey Billups who has a great rookie season, and let's start Oprah Wimphrey at guard instead. Lets get 55 year old Robert Parish back on the team and start him at center. Whatever we can do to make the Celtics suck. Jim O'Brien had no choice but to leave.

though he's a philadelphia natives, the big question is whether or not he can handle the troubling Iverson who recently always have problems with his coaches (even coach Larry Brown has to give up). and on every occation, Iverson always wins the case
