that can go both ways. being a lousy host when you have invited others over could be bad.{ i try and realize that some people may have no idea how to host} but there is also the lousy ungracious guest who acts like a jerk and expects to be waited on hand and foot, is a slob. outstays their welcome.

i've tried this and it doesn't always work because some just don't get the hint and they keep coming back.

Nothing is more annoying than that old college friend who turns up, looking for free room and board while he is in town. This sort of thing must be discouraged. Don't have a guest room;but hand your friend and his spouse a couple of old sleeping bags to sack out on. Don't cook a meal for your friends or take them out to eat, but tell him, with a long face, that you're having to economize and no longer have the funds for frivolous things like food. Suggest they visit the McDonald's a block or two away. Keep your friends up all night, playing loud rap music or hardcore. If you have kids, let them run around like savages, menacing your guests. Chances are, you won't hear from these friends again.
