I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think the cartoon is better.

my granddaughter could watch this movie over and over. i think it was ok. the casting was great except freddie prinze jr as fred. i just didnt buy it.

Better than I thought it'd be.

Definitely one time when you should stick with the original. It wasn't a complete washout, but it was in the same neighborhood. The actors playing Velma and Shaggy were actually pretty good, and the CGI Scooby wasn't really all that bad. The problem was with Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar. They're not bad actors, it's just that they were miscast, and their characters (especially Prinze's) didn't match up at all with what they were in the animated original. This is a typical Hollywood goof, casting so-called big names in films on the assumption that it will draw people into the theatre, and whether or not they actually fit the part is of no concern to them (think of Tom Cruise as the Vampire Lestat). Anyway, kids will love this thing, adults beware.
