 | lmorovan (12) 04/13/2008 | His birth, His life and His death were all part of God's plan for Salvation. Jesus came to do the will of the Father, and His death was part of His will.

 | TeresaG (29) 03/03/2008 | "Father, if it is NOT your will, take this cup from me.." Luke 22:42. Yes, Jesus's death was the will of God ~ FOR OUR SALVATION! And Jesus accepted it. For God so loved the world, that he sent his only begotten son.

 | ma duron (62) 08/19/2007 | Not 'His will' as in "I will have it so," but, rather, as in the sacrifice of the Lamb, His own Son, to make all free from Original Sin.

 | kiwimatt (1) 06/06/2005 | The Death of Jesus on the cross was the will of God - not Jesus will. Matt, Mark and Luke all show this clearly. Matt 26v39 My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not as I WILL, but as YOU WILL then in v42 My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, YOUR WILL be done
Mark 14v36 all things are possible for you, remove this cup from me, yet not what I WILL, but what YOU WILL
Luke 22v42 Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me, yet not MY WILL, but YOURS be done
so CLEARLY it was not Jesus will that he be brutally beaten, nailed to a cross and killed, but he submitted to his Fathers will.
That is was in Gods plan all along Peter speaks about 50 Days or so later in Acts 2v23 this man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put him to death, so it was clearly Gods will, not Jesus will.

 | Gentle Jude (23) 05/18/2005 | Absolutely it was. Even in the days of Genesis, the death of Jesus was predicted especially when Jacob gave his last prophecies before he died about Judah (Gen 49). The Father has always willed it for Jesus to die for our sins. But it was funny the timing of it all. For about 5000 years, the Jews had to live under the law. This required sacrifices and forgiveness was a lot harder, and it was harder to please God because it was done by our works (most not all because God has always been pleased by faith.) I believe that God didn't make it so Jesus died sooner because He wanted us to appreciate grace. If God had of just saved us in Exodus (through Jesus), the Jews would take it for granted and probably wouldn't even think they needed Jesus. I can see the evangelist Ray Comforts' logic about getting a person saved by comparing them to the law. As I said, the law revealed to the Israelites that they were terrible sinners. In fact, one of the functions of the law was to condemn. That condemnation led the Israelites to appreciate Jesus. Anyway, my second point was that it was the will of the whole Trinity for Jesus to die. The Father willed it, the Spirit willed it (because He is the Spirit of the Father) and Jesus willed it. In fact in the Gospel of John, Jesus tells us that He willingly died for us. So it was not a case of the Father forcing Jesus to do it. It was all done at Jesus' will. If Jesus wanted to, being God, He could have sent tens of thousands of Angels to stop the Romans from killing Him. So in fact, it wasn't primarily the will of the Romans to kill Jesus. It happened because God allowed it to happen.

 | Djahuti (54) 12/29/2004 | This one is tricky. If God is all powerful,it follows that all events are in some way Gods Will. However,Jesus' teachings seem to say that God has given us free choice....but ifr that is the case,God also knows full well what our choices will be.This question is a fine introduction to circular logic!

 | MariusQelDroma (36) 11/10/2004 | Ignatius, God didn't just want to forgive us, and go about business as usual, He wanted to restore us to our place as his family, and He thought it best to live as one of us, die on the cross to pay our sin-debt, then rise again from the grave to give us eternal life by defeating death. Not everyone believes that like I do, and that's OK. You have a mind to make up just like I do, and I will respect your right to choose, whether or not I agree with your choice. I hope someday you'll find God for yourself.

 | jakemr33 (6) 11/09/2004 | Reilly, let me ask you a question. Do you believe actions speak louder than words? Does it hold the same significance to say to somebody I love You or to show somebody they love them? of course not. God had to show his love by his only begotten son dying on the cross. You have to understand during the biblical days, in order for something or somebody to live, something had to be sacrificed or die. Man you just don't get it.

 | Flick01 (71) 05/27/2004 | First I need to qualify (or unqualify depending on your viewpoint) myself by saying that I am not a Bible scholar by any stretch of the imagination. Second, even though I am Christian there are things about God that I do not understand, but it is not necessary for me to understand everything as it has no real bearing on the way my life is affected by God. With that having been said I'll state my opinion as to why I think Jesus' death was specifically the will of God. As I understand it, in the days of the old testament when the Jews wanted to be forgiven of their sins God required some kind of a blood sacrifice. An animal such as a lamb was often chosen. I believe that God decided that there would be one great sacrifice and it would cover the forgiveness of all sin for everyone from that point forward. That sacrifice was the death of Jesus. For those who are believers in Jesus many comparisons can be made between the innocent animal of the old testament and Jesus who was innocent of sin. (Jesus is often referred to as the lamb of God) So instead of us having to sacrifice an animal when we need to be forgiven, we refer to the sacrifice of Jesus which is sufficient in God's eyes.

 | Beloved (21) 05/04/2004 | GOD'S whole desire is for us all to be redeemed to HIM, JESUS took care of that when HE gave up HIS life on the cross. GOD loves us and doesn't want any of us to be lost.
