The only thing I really liked him in was The Ox Bow Incident. He is an American Icon Though.

A fine actor who often played the "everyman" or regular guy in extraordinary circumstances. "The Grapes of Wrath" and "Mister Roberts" are two of my favorites.

I liked a lot of the movies Henry Fonda was in. He was good in the Grapes of Wrath. I liked him in Mr.Roberts. and perfect as Norman the elderly man in ON Golden Pond.I was glad to see him finally win an oscar for the latter role.He played similar roles to James Stewart, and Jack Lemmon, the everyman who others can relate to.

The Grapes of Wrath is one of my favorite old movies, but it's Mister Roberts that I always think of when the name Henry Fonda comes up. Great in westerns as well, and managed to finish things off with a nice performance in On Golden Pond.

A great actor. He was part of the John Ford stable.

He projected a combination of thoughtfulness, intelligence, integrity and modesty in his roles better than most actors. His apparent coldness at times resulted from the seriousness of moral purpose he portrayed. Interestingly, while he may never have been a top box-office star, he gradually became recognized as one of America's greatest and most durable actors, with roles which would eventually become legendary in The Grapes of Wrath, The Ox-Bow Incident, My Darling Clementine, Mister Roberts, 12 Angry Men and Fail Safe, among the best. He was also magnificent in one of his rare negative roles, as a sadistic, cold-eyed villain in Once Upon a Time in the West.

I'm not so sure Henry Fonda was liberal. Maybe because of his participation in the great movie, 'The Grapes of Wrath', people associate him as being a liberal. He and his very liberal children were not very close for most of their adult lives. Nevertheless, very few actors can claim such memorable roles in a span of fifty-odd years. Could anyone have filled the role of Tom Joad or of the elderly Professor in the movie 'On Golden Pond'? Whatever his political inclinations were, Fonda was a great actor who will continue to be appreciated by generations to come.

Solid actor, but to me he seemed like he had a cold prickly personality.

I'd like to admire this guy more as an actor, but I can't. He was good in "The Grapes of Wrath," "The Wrong Man," "12 Angry Men" and "Mister Roberts," but otherwise I find his performances a tad flat and predictable. His politics are of no consequence to me, nor those of his daughter: it's just that his presence as an actor is solid, but seems bland.

Three words, 12 Angry Men. Wouldn't have been as good without him.

Is this guy first on the list just because he's had two votes?

I've always enjoyed Henry Fonda as an actor..."On Golden Pond" was a nice "final curtain call" for the man, but my all time favorite of his has to be "Mr. Roberts"...I still get misty-eyed when they read the message that he was killed.
