"If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." (Add picture)

Paul addresses in this passage that which should be our main focus and concern if we are to become like Jesus. God is Love, Jesus is Love, and no other attribute of God is more emphatically insisted upon than love. everything that God has done, is doing and will do is based and motivated by His eternal, infinite love. Love itself is what keep all things together and make them work for the glory of God. Paul's description of what love is points clearly to the fact that love is an act of the will, not an emotion or a feeling. And no one can have an excuse not to love. God enables us to do so and if we allow Him to guide us, love will flow naturally through Him.

God-nuts and gay-for-christ types aside, Corinthians is some terrific reading. . .

This verse is something everyone should read & follow today. What is Love... I asked my mother why it is I love so deeply as God's child & she read me this verse. Then I understood. Thank you Lord!!!

Although I gave a lot of these Scriptures in this list a 5, this would have to be one of my favourites because this chapter talks about love. It talks about how that if we have all these mighty gifts of speaking in tongues, have prophecy and wisdom, but have no love, we are just useless noisy gongs. This chapter not only tells us to love each other, but also has one of the most beautiful statements in the whole Bible. It talks about the characteristics of love (how it is not rude, is forgiving, trusting, hopes, never ends or fails, patient, kind, not proud, not easily angered etc.) This is a wonderful chapter and shows us what we should be like. There are so many Christians who don't live up to this. I have been guilty of not doing all these things from time to time although I am improving everyday.
