A mercifully temporary and cheesy mistake... it didn't lead to The Green Goblin emerging from The Twins bullpen or something...

If a studio is stupid enough to spend a goodly chunk of change on such a lame idea, I guess you can't blame the baseball parks for taking it. I know the ball park is already full of advertising, but this seems to me to be the beginning of a trend that ends up looking like this: Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!

well when evr you go to a hockey game there is always an advertisment on the ice rink. Or a basketball game on the floor there is always an advertisement so why shouldnt baseball get to put advertisment on the field.

Who cares if they sell things on the bases... those of you 'purists' who think it is sacriligous haven't taken a look at the ballparks.

It's UGLY. I think having images of Spider-Man on the bases detracts from the beauty of the game. Having ads on vertical surfaces was bad enough, but what next? sculpted into the grass? I don't watch as much sports as I used to: it seems that advertising is coming into your head any time your eyes are open.

I can't say that Ads on the bases is the biggest problem facing major league baseball, but it may be symptomic of pending cash crunch issues? You start letting advertisers get to ingrained in the sport, and the danger is that there might arise the perception that advertising dollars are influencing game outcomes. Any time you start playing with the integrity of the game, my immediate suspicion is that it's a sign of desperation. Does anyone really have any doubt why MLB isn't clamping down on steroids? Could it be that attendance will go down with the hr numbers? I think baseball is in trouble....
