this totally dried my face out.. which wasn't really a big deal because it cleared my acne up for about a month. A month later and my skin is still dried out, but mmy acne has come back 10X worse! i have never seen my face like this before.. i eat healthy and drink lots of water. I have about 50 pimples on my face. I wanted this to work for me, but i'm fed. My mom even commented on the state of my face in horror.

I have used Doxycycline 100MG for 2 years and it's the only acne medication that controls my acne. I have tried other medications but by far this has been the best.

i stopped using b/c i kept getting yeast infections. i use cetaphil, duac and clean and clear advantage moisturizer. my face looks alot better after 2 1/2 months.

like peer90, I'm also taking this with Duac and Differin. I really can't differentiate what is doing what to my face. But overall this blue pill is pretty heavy stuff. Always eat before and consume tons of water. I took this on an empty stomach and threw up.

I've been on doxy for over 6months. It works great! it really cleared up my face, under the skin looks even better. But you do have to use cream at night and gel in the morning. Differn at night i use and duac gel in the morning. You must eat before you take doxy, it's really strong, and drink lots of water through out the day....I ran out for a week and I started to brk out really bad....make sure you don't miss dose.
AKSnoopy88 01/12/2007
I was on it for a while just by itself, twice a day. I kept using OTC topical products but that didn't do anything. After 2 or 3 months my doctor prescribed differin and told me to keep taking it once a day. Differin helped.. dont think the doxy did anything.

I have been on a combination Rx of Doxy and Retin-A micro for the past 2.5 weeks. At first, I had severe flaking of my skin and and couldnt even wear makeup it was so bad. It has subsided, but I still have spots of dryness, especially around my mouth, chin, and outside corners of my eyes. I've always had flawless skin until this past summer, where I started breaking out...bad. I thought it had something to do with not working out anymore, since school and work prevented me from having any free time. Its winter now, and as many of you know its a hell-period for acne prescriptions on ur face. The acne on my back is completely non existent now, and my face is slowly clearing up. Its a matter of dealing with the dryness and redness now. I'm going to give both Rxs 2 months and if the dryness and redness dont subside, I'll have to try something else. In conclusion, my face looks A LOT better than it did 2.5 weeks ago, but it still needs a lot of work. Patience and a miracle is in order :)

No help at all. All it did was make my skin horribly flakey (like my face was peeling) and no amount of moisturiser worked to combat the terrible problem. No sign of positive results within week. Have just started using clearasil blemish cream and going back to hot hot face water and clinique mild face soap and already there is a noticeable improvement. May work for some, but not me.

i have been on doxycycline for about 4 mos now. i had acne all over my back that looked horrible. it has really cleared up but i still have spots from where it was in some areas. i still get a few breakouts here and there but nothing like i was having. i wish i didnt have to take antibiotics for my acne but its the only that works for me.

i have been on doxy for exzactly 1 month. I have noticed a slight improvement, but i still have noticeable acne and the new ones still seem to keep popping up. I'll re-rate after month 2

I was put on Doxy for a couple of months by my derm. Since you can build up a resistance to antibiotics over a long period of time, it isn't recommended to take this medication longer than that. I had pretty good results. It did help clear up the painful, cystic acne I had giong on at the time. A year later, I was seeing an eye doctor b/c I was having chronically dry, red, irritated eyes. He recommended me to (in addition to Rx eye drops) try taking 3g daily of Barlean's Flax Seed Oil to help my condtion. He mentioned that it is comparable to Doxy and helps keep the integumentary system(eyes, skin, hair, etc.) healthy. I have been taking the flax seed oil on and off over the past 6 months. I have noticed my skin does look better when I do take the flax seed oil, than when I don't. Overall, worth a try. You can find it at Whole foods.

When I first started taking this, it worked like a dream. I had cystic acne on my forehead, rock hard lumps under my skin, very distressing. The doxycycline made a noticeable difference in about two days--just calmed 'em right down, and then cleared them up completely in about a week. My skin was just no problem, it was like I never acne, nothing 'bothered' my skin when I was taking these, didn't have to be careful with it at all. I took it for three months initially coz was the length of the prescription. However, I went off it and the cystic acne would just come straight back and my skin in general wasn't being as laid back, so I took it again...and again...and again (very obliging pharmacist) and now I guess I'm immune to it. I still give it a go every now and then to see if it still works even a bit but if it doesn't start showing results in less than a week, I give up again, so I'm not really sure _how_ immune I am. Still, if you haven't tried it yet, it's definitely worth ago if only for temporary relief. Maybe if you took breaks between cycles you mightn't get immune to it. Wish I had done this. Possibly coincidence, but sometimes I suspected that they caused me to have a sore throat for the first few days when I started back on them after being off em for a while. Nothing major though.

did nothing, i took it for months. sometimes i wonder if the allergies i know have to many antibiotics came from long term use of this, plus the other antibiotics i was given over a 3 year period.

ive been taking the 100mg for about 3 months now and noticed that after the first month or so it has really stoped all my breakouts, not permenately but to where i only have a breakout every week or 2 and it clears up really fast. overall i think it worked like a charm, i would recommend it to anyone.

Started with Minocyclin 100% results, became immune after 12 months approx, switched to Doxycline - 100% results, became immune to it after 6 months or so, switched back to Minocycline 100% results now becomming immune also (12 months). Side effects from D was the throat thing (felt constricted) and side effects the 2nd time around from M has been discharge, visual disturbances, not so sharp mentally ....still 100% clear skin is worth it (crazy I know but thats how I feel).

I have been on doxycycline for 3 weeks now and have noticed only slight improvement. I will re-rate it at the end of my treatment in October. I wanted to rate it a 3 star because it is easy to take and I have had no side effects. Don't take it with milk as it will reduce the medicine's effects by 30%. You can take it with food, though, which is good for stomach upset. Also, don't take vitamins or calcium within 3 hours. This will also reduce the medicine's effectiveness.

Made me naseaous all the time! But my skin did look pretty good...

Used it while I was 19, for a month and it worked wonders for my skin. I was clear for a year (while using some topical treatment creams at the same time), and when I stopped using all these and switch to over the counter products for normal skin, my skin breakout again. I tried using Doxycycline again, and it don't work anymore. I guess Doxycycline only works once. However, it doesn't give me any side effects.
SuperTowanda 06/16/2002
For many months after I started taking Doxycycline, I would often feel like there was something huge stuck in my throat or my stomach. I felt nauseus a lot and even threw up several times before realizing that it was the medicine that was making me do it! It's difficult to keep with the explicit instructions (take on an empty stomach, no milk products for 2 hours, something like that). I don't even remember if it helped my skin or not because it made me so miserable I don't like to think about it! It does work for some though. This is just a warning.

I am 16, and I used doxy in my sophomore year, when I lived in a very damp, cool, sunless climate;(i.e. Oregon). It worked awesome, after like 1 month, my face was flawless. I had no side effects, but my skin was very pale while I was on it. Then I moved to California, where it's hot and dry, and it stopped working altogether. I am getting my first perscription for Accutane tomorrow. But I would recommend Doxy to anyone in a cold damp place, because that is where it seems to work.

It's ok - but DON'T TAKE IT WHILE YOUR PREGNANT.

I first used doxycycline when I was 19 years old. My then 15 yr. old sister and I started using this med at the same time. It worked wonders for us. We used it for about six months. It totally cleared our faces and my chest and back. Initially, we did have a few break-outs, but after a few weeks they stopped. However, three years later when I decided to try the medication again, it did not work as well. I, as was julias23, was taking a higher dosage. I discontinued the medication when I saw no results after three months.

The first time I used Doxycycline it work wonders after using it for three months. I went off of it and just used a topical medication and for a year I had no signs of acne. I started to show signs of my acne again so I went back on it and it doesn't seem to be working as well as it did the fist time even though I am on a higher dosage.
