One of my favorite sci-fi flicks of the early 1980's. In spite of the too-gory special effects it still has that closed-in feeling that the original film used to great effect. The real scary part is not knowing who is still their real self or taken over by the alien creature. Kurt Russell was very good in this movie.

It's awesome. Number 3 greatest horror movie ever made.

This is one of the best horror films of all time, and surely one of the top three sci-fi/horrors. Russell is tough as nails in this, and the creature is even more bad-a**. Awesome special effects for its time and a couple truly gut-wrenching scenes...and this one is actually pretty scary, which is always an added bonus in a horror movie.

Underrated creepy movie that is still watchable. . .a misunderstood film because everyone is looking for 'the thing' but the film is also commenting on how people tend to turn on each other.

That scene where Kurt sticks the hot pin in the blood made me jump the first time I saw it.

I recommend this flick to everyone within earshot. Carpenter had a way of establishing mood with his early efforts, and this one sinks its teeth into your spine and settles in. Just enough casting acumen to keep you involved with the characters without harboring attachments to them when they bit the dust (which you knew was going to happen). Slightly sloppy in the special effects department, but when certain scenes hit, they packed a wallop (the head-bug in the doorway continues to chill). Pacing was exceptional, and the ending is not to be missed. A classic that's not mentioned nearly enough.

Pretty scary movie. Kurt Russell was very good in this one, almost too good to be a horror movie.

Predictable horror movie stuff. Well made, but that's about it.

Ugh. When John Carpenter and Kurt Russell combine, the result is always taseless and uninspired. They should both have stuck to comedy (although this is UNintentionally funny in parts).

Carpenter isnt the best director, but the story is genius (Campbell's "Who goes there?") and he totally lucked out getting Rob Bottin and Mike Ploog and Dean Cundy and Morricone's score and the rest. It is a masterpiece. I believe a good movie should affect you. This movie scared the living crap out of me. Bravo!

Excellent creepy scifi suspense film. Mixing horror and tension superbly, blending with it great character actors and a tough leading man - Kurt Russell. Top special effects and make-up. A worthy film.

The first time I watched this was in the middle of the night when I was bouncing off the walls after drinking some energy drink. Yeah I was pretty jumpy which is why this movie didn't suck.

One of the few Unbelievably good thrillers to come out of John Carpenter's long and periodically disapointing career. This is one of the scariest chill bump inducing sci-fi movies I have ever had the privalledge to view. On a remote government base stationed in the middle of no where Antarctica strange things begin to happen when a dog is chased onto their base by a russian scientist from another near by base who is trying to kill the dog. The russian is killed before he gets a chance to kill the dog. What follows is one of the best ideas ever put to film. The alien being aboard this base ubsorbs living beings and tries to become them. The results are pure terror. This alien can mimic it's host perfectly so it always keeps you guessing as to who could be the alien. John Carpenter weaves another far out frightning tale. His flair for visual scares and gift for creating empeckable atmosphere are showcased here. Carpenter is a master story teller. To bad now a days all he gets are sh*t scripts. This film comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Any sci-fi,horror,great story fan should give themselves a great treat and watch this classic.

A chilling sci/fi based on a 1950's drive-in classic. The atmosphere is dark and cold, and the special effects amazing, especially considering this movie was made in 1982. Kurt Russell, Donald Pleasance, M. Emmett Walsh and Keith David star in this paranoia screamer. Who can you trust?
