ItemImageFrom the names we've all heard, like "Muffin", and "Shnookums", to the less common "Steamed Dumpling", or "Papi", pet names imply a certain comfort level newer relationships often lack.

I need a pet name for me and my boyfriend! With my ex he called me snuggle bunny and I called him teddy bear. Now I have no idea what to use with my new boyfriend. We are getting engaged in feburary. He means more to me than anyone in the world. Can anyone help me. I want something cute like snuggle bunny and teddy bear, but something not to mushy and gross. u know? prittygurl32@yahoo.com if you think of anything let me know pleaseee. i call him babe or baby and thats what he calls me now, but we both like pet names and can't think of anything that cute :(

I've got names for everyone.

UPDATE: An ex of mine called me "Moose." I'm 165 pounds right now and at the time I weighed less than that, so you do the math and figure out what she was talking about, heh heh...

Depends on the pet name.

If she calls you something like "Snookums" it might indicate a case of terminal cuteness.

While "F***ing Rat Bastard" probably indicates that its time to get the hell out of Dodge.

And if she comes out of the bedroom in leather and stilletto boots, holding whip in one hand and oreder you to put on a dog-collar and leash while calling you "Rover," I'll let you choose for yourself.

Sometimes this just comes naturally after a while. My girlfriend and I always call each other "babe" or "baby". A lot of couples do.

Might be a sign for some, but a lot of people end up making names a week in...or...they were already friends first and the nicknames just tranferred to the new relationship.

I think you can have pet names with somebody you just flirt with and have no thoughts of having a relationship with. Pet names are an ordinary part of how people show affection and aren't such a big deal to me.

This is usually a positive sign. Just make sure it isn't Uncle Stinky or Cheap Bastard

Not really. I'm sure people with fetishes who hire prostitutes ask the hookers to call them certain names or whatnot. It's just something that turns some people on. It doesn't mean anything.

Just as long as it isn't Rover or Fluffy.

Yeah, kind of a big next level thing--I admit that I call my husband cuteness or baby or other variations of those on occasion (but I won't tell you what he calls me, on account of it being embarrassing).

I guess it all depends on the kind of and degree of pet names used. My boyfriend is particularly fond of pet names such as 'sweetie poo' and 'pumpkin buns.'

They are alright just as long as they don't turn violent.

Depends on the relationship. Some couples are more affectionate with each other. Usually it starts out with sweetie or baby and it builds from there as you start getting to know each other. I wouldn't suggest steamed dumpling however.

Forget sharing your bank account. When your girlfriend calls you Superman, you know you've hit the next level.

I think pet names are great. When you're in love you feel tender towards your lover and want to baby him. In fact, my ex and I used to call each other-well, I'd better not say.

This is a level I don't really want ANY relationship of mine to get to.
