 | Chalky Studebaker (16) 11/04/2008 | The commission would be too partisan, just like the Supreme Court.

 | VirileVagabond (38) 02/13/2007 | For starters, elections are all held on the state and local level, in particular electors are elected on the state level; therefore, either this suggestion is to create 50 special commissions or to federalize the presidential election process. As with Florida (for a now famous example), I'm sure that all states and commonwealths have laws and procedures for handling election disputes and other issues, and I don't want to see the process federalized since I don't want a federal official from Wyoming influencing what is done in New York (and vice versa). The bottom line is the special commissions are for emerging democracies, not for the U.S. with voters, the press, and an established judiciary already watching the process.

 | Drummond (60) 02/27/2006 | There really ought to be some centralization of this procedure, and the Constitution ought to be amended for that purpose.

 | sfalconer (22) 06/23/2005 | Who controls this commission and how are they appointed to office? Is this a permenant or temporary job, who would want it? Bad idea we need laws in place to decide these matters and not another beauraracy.

 | GenghisTheHun (179) 06/23/2005 | This is really bad. How many new layers of bureaucrats and rivers of lawsuits would this unlease?

 | 37102002 (2) 01/30/2005 | each state already has this in the form of state election boards, courts and legislatures.

 | Anonymous (1) 03/29/2004 | This wouldn't work. Whichever party controlled the commission would win the elction as they would vote for their party's candidate. If there was an even number of party members on the council, the election would be deadlocked and nothing would be resolved.

 | President -X-D (7) 04/24/2003 | Bureaucrats? We really don't need any more of THEM, do we? Special commissions are a waste of time and money.

 | DeathRattle (1) 12/22/2001 | Notice that only the idiots of our country have a problem with the voting process in this country. "I can't tell the difference between the hole for Bush and the hole for Gore. I'm such a dumbass." Only the democrats were complaining because they knew they couldn't get their robot....I mean, their man in the first time. Stop being a crybaby Gore and take it like a man.

 | abichara (66) 12/15/2001 | A year after the last Presidential Elections, we have been given a chance to really look at the lessons it has taught us concerning the Electoral process in this country. Certain areas need to be reformed and are in the process of being so. Other issues need not be created. Having a special commission to resolve voting disputes is not one of them. There is a very strong probability that undue political influence may be exerted on these panels. Vote counts may be altered and different standards may be set to benefit one candidate or another. You want to keep corruption out of the scene when tabulating votes, this will only add more corruption to the political scene.

 | jett (0) 11/17/2000 | As the possibiliy for bias is always there, why not just set up a framework for resolving disputes...after we have instituted a nationwide standardized balloting system.

 | Wiggum (17) 11/08/2000 | This is one of those ideas that sounds great at a high level, but once you start talking about the details you realize there would be a ugly mess of problems. How would the members of the commission be chosen? What exact powers would it have? How would you ensure the integrity of the commission?

 | Munson (8) 11/08/2000 | States have mechanisms in place to handle voting disputes. It is Florida law that all elections that result with a winning margin of less than .5% are subject to an automatic recount. The system works, but it takes time. The last thing we need is another special commission to get involved.

 | alicat (3) 11/08/2000 | A commission would look good but it would just be yet another organization that I wouldn't trust. I don't know how much good having a commission would do in solving any voting disputes. We have enough people in our country to decide a solution if there is a situation that needs to be dealt with.

 | magellan (178) 11/08/2000 | I think it's important, but I also think that the risk will always be there for corruption. Everyone is corruptible, it doesn't matter if you are part of a "special commission" or not. It is, however, a little odd that one of the presidential candidate's brother is in charge of overseeing the Florida recount that will determine the election.

 | artbuf (0) 11/08/2000 | What I would really like to see is the news media stop CREATING news. Why does ABC get to decide who is carrying a state? Let the election officials for the STATE declare the winner. That is their JOB!!!!!!
