A great manager who has been successful. I would have liked to see him have more success in the postseason though.

Tony LaRussa is a great manager. He knows his percentages. Those percentages have backfired on him in key postseason moments though. He's a manager who seems to play by the book too tightly.

The best manager in the majors right now; possibly the best of all time!

Sometimes I think Tony is psyhic. He just knows who is going to get a hit. I am extremely tired of the old fart in StL comparing him to Whitey Herzog. Yeah he is smart and yes as a St. Louisan I can handle a smart manager I don't need a good old boy.

Throughout his career he has taken a team with good talent but one that is missing some parts and won with it. In my opinion, the best manager of all time. He was above .500 last year with the worse pitching staff in the business. It seems to have improved this year though.

The smartest, (not to say the best) manager in baseball, sometimes has trouble with over-managing. He needs to know when to just let them play. I think his teams tend to be a little weak on fundamentals.

THE MOST OVERRATED manager in baseball. Lifetime winning percentage (as manager) ranks 37th, just BEHIND the beloved White Rat. Any manager/team can rack up the wins if they've been around long enough. If Dusty hadn't become the Cubs manager, Tony LaRussa would have been a natural fit for a team that is in the top ten in wins, but has not won a World Series in 95 years. Unfortunately for the Cardinals and their fans, LaRussa has said he will return for the 2004 season. I can not recall a manager who has had so many talented teams, yet finds ways to submarine his teams' World Series aspirations. I contend that the Cardinals win in spite of Tony LaRussa, not because of his managerial skills.

Knows how to win but not in the NL. Plays way too conservative and relys too much on power. Bring back the Whiteyball that won us a World Series.

I don´t know how he still manages one of the best teams in Baseball. He lives from his past glory, but he has show he can´t with the cardinals. The decisions in the post-season were the worst.

Mr. LaRussa; I,m a N.Y. Yankee fan; but I think you can win it all this year if you can get Rick to throw the ball across the plate. Being a former picture and baseball coach; If Rick slows it down in his mind & can block out everything but the catcher glove it may work! I know that you get all the help you need from your coaches; but I do believe that Rick is your World Series ticket.I don't know Ricks personity; but I'm sure you want to try anything to make this work for the wild thing, P

He's a legend in his own mind.

He's an incredibly intelligent manager, but he loses a star for poor playoff performances('88- losing to a much weaker Dodgers team/'90 Reds WS loss/'96?- up 3-1 on Braves and lost). His ego(pitching to Bonds in key regular season situations) gets him into trouble at times. I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars, but his activism for animals made me give him the benefit of the doubt.
kenharris8 08/30/2000
Overrated, has lost games by meddling too much, or not making correct moves, he's no Joe Torre, and I'm a Cardinals fan

Not too long ago, LaRussa was a genious. The A's were consistently one of the best teams in baseball and everyone thought that he was a big part of the reason why. Yet, since arriving in St. Louis, the Cardinals have not done very much (until this year). And, remember, even with all of the talent he had in Oakland, they only won 1 World Series and were embarrassed in the other two. With a few notable exceptions (Dusty Baker, Felipe Alou) who seem to be able to more with less, a manager is only as good as the talent on his team and LaRussa is a perfect example of that.

Tony LaRussa always gets the most out of his players And can get people to play above their potential.
