12/25/2005 | One of the most popular symbols associated with pirates,the Jolly Roger had many variations.It was almost always white on a black background,and showed either a skull,skull and cross bones(Edward England) or crossed daggers,or a skeleton.Other symbols were weapons such as a dart,or an hourglass to signify that "time is running out".Pirates took the "deaths head" symbol from the ships log-where it represented the death of a sailor.
