 | numbah16tdhaha (144) 06/09/2006 | Its a mixed bag, but most of the very high profile Dems are anti-gun, even when they own and carry guns, which I think makes zero sense. The visablility of these idiots hanging with Handgun Control Inc. and other such groups has put it in gun owners minds that they might want to vote Republican to keep their guns and that idea has hurt the Dems in elections of late. I also agree that the NRA took Gore's scalp and that's a funny idea to me!

 | GenghisTheHun (168) 11/02/2005 | Al Gore's rather ample posterior would be warming the swivel chair in the oval office right now if the Democrats had not turned off gun owners and hunters.
Gore lost West Virginia, Arkansas, and Tennessee, just for starters. West Virginia is one of the most Democratic states in the Union, but 71% of the voters are gun owners. Gore ignored the state taking it for granted. Bush campaigned heavily there emphasizing Gore's and the Democrats' anti-gun stance. Gore panicked and spent some money there the last two weeks, but to no avail. (Bush also carried it in 2004 on the same issue. This is the first time since 1920 that West Virginia has voted back to back GOP.)
Gore also managed to lose his home state and Bill Clinton's home state. You will recollect he lost the election by one electoral vote! The NRA and gun owners can rightfully claim Gore's scalp as a trophy.

 | Daccory (15) 03/23/2005 | Once again we see a massacre such as the Columbine killings at a school. Again it involved a 16 yr old kid with no trained social skills, left alone to swill around the internet sites and then to take advantage of the most ridiculously easy gun laws availabile on the planet. When will Americans learn you don't need guns? It is no wonder other countries sneer at a constitution that supposedly permits the right of everyone to carry a gun. How 18th Century.

 | Skizero (13) 03/18/2005 | not all Democrats; remember good ole John Kerry himself was out shooting ducks right before the 2004 election. Mostly I think Democrats are full of it on this issue. most of them are gun/war nut jobs just like Republicans. as for myself, yeah i'd like to see each and every gun dismantled and melted down into molten slop.

 | gmanod (3) 03/18/2005 | Yes I do want to take guns away- most of them anyway. I think people should be able to own hunting rifles, but no one needs handguns or assault rifles. These weapons are only available to kill other human beings. I would put credence in the Well criminals could still buy them if 1.) Guns were statistically shown to be a positive force in protection of one's self and/or possessions- not only has that not been shown, but people who defend their houses with guns are more likely to shoot someone who lives in the house or is not trying to break in. 2.) most of these guns that criminals buy weren't domestically produced; if we stopped making guns all over the country then the criminals would not be able to have them either. We are not allowed to buy other types of letha; armament, so why hand cannons? So far 23 people have been murdered in the last 9 days in Philadelphia- just about all with guns. The state GOP even opposes legislation that would outlaw bulk gun purchases. I really wish that some of you gun nuts could witness the sight of a 9 year old boys grey matter on the sidewalk: thats what your guns get us...death. When will you people learn?

 | Enkidu (37) 03/15/2005 | Rednecks with guns aren't the problem: it's guns in the inner cities. This one is a bizarre case of the NRA being right half the time, and the anti-gun lobby being right the other half the time. Sorry, I don't have an answer for this one.

 | Jar-Jar Binks (16) 03/10/2005 | No way Jose. We Dems support the 2nd Amendment 100%. ... I have a message to you GOP and NRA people. How about supporting convicts the right to keep and bear arms? Don't criminals have a right to defend themselves against possible police brutality? ... In my NY neighborhood, we got gangs exchanging gun fire every night. Don't those gang members have every right to protect his family? ... Good reason why criminals should own firearms.

 | James76255 (17) 02/27/2005 | This is another thing that is more a far left thing than a Democrat thing, and, believe it or not, not all Democrats are to the far left. This is one of the few things I do lean ever so slightly to the left on, agreeing with background checks and a few other ideas. I do think it is possible to get certain weapons off the street without compromising our Constitutional rights.

 | Djahuti (53) 02/26/2005 | Although I consider myself independant I have voted for the Democrats often, locally and nationally.Yet,I do not want citizens to lose the right to bear arms.I do favor a thorough background check and a waiting period, though.

 | EschewObfuscation (61) 02/25/2005 | This is no myth, but most of their arguments in attempting to ban all legal guns are very mythical. The idea that stopping the production of all guns will keep not only law-abiding people, but also criminals from having guns is just the beginning. The likelihood that all Americans will be forced to relinquish their guns, in any of our lifetimes, is very low. Go ahead, write up the referendum. Let's all vote. Keep dreaming.

 | helmut (16) 02/12/2005 | This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilised nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future! - Adolf Hitler 1935 ***** I post this quote only to say that the criminals will always have weapons no matter how many restrictions are placed. If you want to make me wait 30 days to get a gun, fine. But, don't tell me I can't have a handgun, because when a burgalar that has an illegal one breaks into my house, I wan't to be able to defend myself.

 | Mr.Political (18) 02/10/2005 | This may not be the case with all Democrats but certainly with many of them. I'm not so sure taking your gun rights away is the best term because they really just go overboard with gun control. In my state, for instance, gun control laws are very strict but that doesn't equate to low crime. As a matter fact, all strict gun control has done is let criminals have guns and not the people those thugs could be going after. As with so many other things in politics, moderation is key.
