He was the greatest American playwright of the post-WWII era, but, oddly ran out of gas at a fairly early point. He was essentially finished well before he was 50. Ironically, his earliest success, "All My Sons," is currently in revivial on Broadway and is impressing audiences. I guess that in our present climate, a play about war profiteering and the soul-destroying nature of ill-gotten riches has an appealing valence.

Just like the Salesman...dead. His plays were boring.

Overrated American playwright....Neil Simon's work is much funnier.

This man deserves a great amount of respect. Not to mention thanks for getting me through the AP Lit. test. A great American playwright.

The author of the crucible is certainly worthy of a sense of loss and respect.

At his best a very good, if not great writer, at his peak in Death of a Salesman. Fairly cerebral guy, although he certainly had an eye for the ladies.

Definitely an iconic figure, who was responsible for Death of a Salesman, All My Sons, and The Crucible. More impressively though he was married to Marilyn Monroe, among other women. He would probably be much better remembered if his genre had been TV or movies, but he probably was America's greatest living playwright.
