I have had very few problems by sticking to one type of whisky or mixed drink. I think it helps me pace myself better. I can drink large quanities of wine if I avoid anything too sweet. I have had few hangovers when drinking micro-brew beers no matter what type so long as I avoid the ones above 5.5% alcohol. I think they are more satisfying and a bit more filling so I tend to drink more slowly than Miller-Bud-Coors types.

Its not a myth. Different alcoholic beverages contain not only different levels of alcohol, but different levels of congeners (sulfites), the impurities in the alcohol that not only get you drunk faster but increase the effect of a hangover. Its always best to stick with one type of drink while your drinking, and if you want to lessen the effects then drink lighter colored beverages. The darker the drink, the more congeners(sulfites) in it. Also always drink hard liquor before you drink beer. Liquor before beer your in the clear, beer before liquor never been sicker. I find this statement to be true and the only explaination I can come up with is that drinking hard liquor first allows your body to process it first, getting the worst of the poison out of your system first.

I often mix liquor, beer, and wine when I drink and it has no effect on whether or not I get a hangover. Alcohol is alcohol. What type you drink doesn't have an effect on a hangover, but rather how much you drink.

it helps if you stick to just beer or keep to one type of whiskey or booze the effects wont be nearly as bad

Old wives tale its not what you drink its how much and how fast. Oh and drink a lot of water itwill hydrate you but you may start to feel a little drunk as it pushes the alcohol through your system.

This is true for me. If I drink say straight beer I will usually be fine the next day, but if i mix it with something like rum or whiskey I will feel horrible the next day.Now on the contrary starting with a stronger drink first then working your way down to less strong drink usually doesn't cause problems. I once mixed rum with wine coolers, I had the runs for days.

My experience supports this idea. The worst hangovers I remember were due to drinking MIXED drinks, or mixing alcohol. Sweet drinks give you worse hangovers because your adding Sugar to more sugar. (Alcohol has high sugar content naturally) When I drink my whiskey (old number 7) and chase with water, I can drink quite a few and not feel near as bad the following day. Throw beer in there with it and it is noticeably worse.

Makes no difference; ethanol is ethanol, no matter what it's in.

I agree with IJR, if your going to get drunk don't worry about. Tomorrow will take care of itself, even if you will regret it.
