I don't like the idea of another non-U.S. team.

Most Dominicans don't have enough money to buy toilet paper, let alone tickets to major league games. Also, nonexistent media market. In addition, the DR isn't noted for its social and political stability: who would want to play there except Dominicans?

The only Dominicans who can afford 7 dollar beers are those in the major leagues. I don't think this would work for Major League baseball, although it might be popular with some of the players.

It's only fair. Of the Island's 6,000 inhabitants, 2,500 are already professional baseball players (It's not quite this dramatic, but this little island contributes an incredible amount of players to MLB). I don't think the economy could support MLB salaries however... ticket prices would have to be pretty low for average Dominicans to go, and with today's salaries, that just doesn't work.

Dominicans are nuts about baseball. I don't know if moving the Expos to Santo Domingo would be a good idea or not financially but I do know they'd have the most fierce and loyal fans there.
