I've tried to watch it with a straight face but simply can't. The unintentional comedy in the hammy acting, overly earnest writing and marginally produced sets and effects do make it worth tuning in from time to time.

The third season had some clunkers, but what can you say about a discarded series that started a genre? It was too much before its time to catch on with the public.
Much of its original material was contrived, trendy and just plain silly. It was all good fun especially with the over the top performances, and Shatner chewing up the (cheesy) scenery.
I always liked the recurring concepts especially the idea that the crew members wearing the red jerseys are the ones who always got killed.

I know I'm in the minority, but this is seriously dumb shit. I thought so when I first saw it, and any encounters I've had with it since haven't caused me to upgrade that opinion. The only thing dumber, are the jackasses who talk about it like it is some kind of Holy Writ or revealed truth.

I'm no Trekkie, but I did enjoy the original series. Say what you want about William Shatner, but he did a great job as Captain Kirk. The whole ensemble was great, including Leonard Nimoy as Spock. It was campy but so what.

Maybe because it was way before my time, I found the show, the effects, and acting kind of chessy.
