ItemImageUnquestionably one of the all-time most influential, important, and versatile guitarists and songwriters in rock history is Jimmy Page. Just about every rock guitarist from the late '60s/early '70s to the present day has been influenced by Page's work with Led Zeppelin — his monolithic riffs served as a blueprint for what would eventually become heavy metal, yet he refused to be pigeonholed to any single musical style (touching upon folk, country, funk, blues, and other genres). Page also lent a hand in writing (or co-writing) ... Read More... at allmusic.com

Certainly a very talented guitarist, even if he is slightly overrated...
Iommi is just as good as him

By far the greatest guitar player in the last 50 years can play the blues with any great black artist from Howling Wolf to BB King.

Surely there should be a picture of this man playing guitar in the dictionary under the word "monotonous".

I agree. He is the epitome of those guitarists who play a chord or two with no particular melody, aim or sequence and are considered guitar gods.

What a joke and an insult to those who study and master the most beautiful instrument.

I think not!

This man is a fraud. A criminal who ripped off uncredited blues artists. And he has no talent as a composer either.

Obvious choice for UK Supergroup - a supergroup member has to be able to write and produce music in addition to playing their instrument with distinction - he's written and produced so much music with Zeppelin - I think he still has a lot of music that come out provided he's surrounded with equally talented musicians.

In terms of raw ambition and above all talent, Page really did have it all. Even before Zeppelin there was the ultimate supergruop The Yardbirds in which he was a leading member; these guys broke new grounds for rock music which in 1969 Zep's first album took full advantage of. OK, so by todays high, high standards his playing is a little sloppy, some notes are misplayed, it can be a bit melodyless at very infrequent occasions, but what matters is that Page built from an empty platform the genre we know as hard rock, which was soon after taken into metal territory by Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi the brains behind it, not Ozzy) the following year. So now we know who to thank...:)

Jimmy Page was a an incredibly talented guitarist who influenced millions of rock fans, as well as young aspiring guitarists. His work with Led Zeppelin produced some of rock's most powerful riffs & solos. Page not only had an encyclopedic knowledge of the electric guitar, but his intricate studio work was a key element on Zeppelin's great records. His body of work has stood the test of time as one of rock's greatest musicians.

One of the best song writers. Look at his influences, rock and roll (50s), blues, country, and folk. Then look how he made them his own. That is what a good musician does. Lets face it he could play lead in a band for 3 hours every night and hold it without another guitarist to help him out.

The one and only. The all-time greatest heavy-metal guitarist. Unique, innovative, distinctive, and many more complimentary adjectives could be heaped upon the great Jimmy Page.
