ItemImageWhile the Guess Who did have several hits in America, they were superstars in their home country of Canada during the 1960s and early '70s. The band grew out of vocalist/guitarist Chad Allan (born Allan Kobel) and guitarist Randy Bachman's Winnipeg-based group Chad Allan and the Expressions, originally known as first the Silvertones and then the Reflections. The remainder of the lineup featured bassist Jim Kale, pianist Bob Ashley... Read More... at allmusic.com

They probably belong in at some point but I don't know if they have made a major impact on rock music when compared to other bands that are not in yet. Put them in but they shouldn't be at the top of the list.

If I could give them 3 & 1/2 stars, I would. They lost a lot when Bachman left. Whereas I really liked "No Time", "Laughing", and "Albert Flasher", I could do without "These Eyes" and "Clap for the Wolfman." When I first heard them, I thought the vocal was similar to the one on "Black Is Black" by Los Bravos. (So, initially, I thought the answer to "Guess Who?' was Los Bravos. Why not? A version of "Don't Think Twice" was issued by the Wonder Who. They were really the Four Seasons.

A lot of the reasons stated below are a reflection of their role in breaking ground for Canadian acts south of the border and even internationally, which alone is not enough of a reason to put them in the Hall of Fame. But they do have a great legacy as a basic hard rock band that broadened the basic Rock and Roll range with the inclusion of elements of jazz, classic pop and even a little humour. They had in their time two excellent songwriters in Bachman and Cummings and some great contributions from other band members including Greg Leskiw, Kurt Winter and Donny McDougall. Cummings was as fine a rock vocalist as there was during the band's hey day (he's still got it too, which is more than you can say for most of his contemporaries) and they contributed some stone classics to the Rock and Roll song book. While there may not be a lot of bands that cite them as a musical influence (aside from in my home town of Winnipeg where they cast a long shadow, everyone either wants to be like the Guess Who or wants to be different from the Guess Who), I think that in the right year they could have made it in.

Hell yeah! just listen to the albums not just the "hits", they were inovative in mixing a varity of music that looked into all phases of musiv genre with out losing their foundation of pure basic rock.

One of my favorite bands on account of their string of memorable hits in the late '60s and early '70s. The material of their last several years didn't measure up though. Close but no cigar.

All you need to do is watch Running Back Thru Canada to remind anyone how these guys can put on a show ! And what about the Grey cup show a couple of years ago compared to this years Black Eyed Peas joke of a so called performance. I'll take the Guess Who on a cold November day anytime. Burton is an artist and a perfectionist while Randy plays second to none. The whole band is as tight now on stage as bands who are still together. They are naturals. Watch the Stones 40 licks performance and then watch Running Back Thru Canada and you'll never leave your radio in the middle of a Guess Who song ever again...

The Guess Who blazed a trail when there were no others to follow. Winnipeg spawned so much great musicians, along with the Guess Who, there is BTO and Neil Young. Wow!

No question about it. These Eyes is one of the most played songs on the radio. American Woman is one of the great rock anthems. Randy Bachman should be a slam dunk given the Guess Who, BTO and song writing talent. Check out his groundbreaking Every Song Tells A Story where he talks about those who influenced him and the stories about the song writing followed by a new version of his hits (has this been done before). Bachman and Cummings did it all --- song writing, played the instruments and great vocals. Many in the hall can't even play an instrument (most motown artists).

Saw them 4-5 years ago, they sounded so much like the song playing on the radio, and we are talking maybe over 20 years here. Great band, definitely deserves it.

Some of their songs are standard late 60s and early 70s faire, what ya hear now on an oldies station. The body of their work was funky? Canadien rock. American Woman is even more relevant today, especially among Canandiens who don't buy into the excuses Bush has given for the Iraq conflict. Like history repeating itself. Clap For the Wolfman is fun and funky to listen to and is a fitting, lasting tribute to the late DJ Wolfman Jack. the late DJ. No Time is relevant to many peoples hurried lifestyles, especially in these soccer mom and cellphone times.

The Guess Who was the ground breaking band that brought Canadian artists/music to the forefront not only in the US but to the world. Driven by the formidable writing duo of Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, this group changed the face of Rock and Roll. With the amazing vocals, keyboard mastery and all-around showmanship of Cummings and the incredible guitar skills of Bachman, The Guess Who was a talent laden powerhouse that has yet to get the recognition that they deserve. Less deserving bands are already enshrined in the Hall. We shouldn't have to wait until we lose one of these incredible musicians to realize the impact that they made.

The Guess Who were not only great musicians but great artists too. They could take emotion and turn it into a song and each song had an extra special touch to it. They had hit after hit and their songs are still played on the radio. You can never tire listening to the Guess Who. Their albums are being re-released onto cd and its time they were inducted into the RRHF. Other bands have covered their songs, but none comes close to the way the Guess Who did them. The Guess Who paved the way for other Canadian bands at a time when there was no Canadian content rule in place. They set the bar!

The Guess Who is/was an underrated band. There is much more to the band then just a hand full of songs. Almost every song has life inside of it. Their original albums are slowly coming back into print and are becoming easy to find on CD. I can almost bet that albums like American woman, Wheatfield Soul, & canned wheat will be re-released on a legacy edition collection or Deluxe edition format. I hope its soon. 2005 holds a few anniversaries for the band. It would be the 35th anniversary of American Woman, and Shakin' All Over was '65. Time for the boys to get into the hall. J Wolf

I have to agree with skizero on them.American Woman was heavy as all hell in it's time & the Lenny Kravitz version is a pale imitation of the classic. This band has been WAY under-rated.

Yes, they should. They were quite the band while they were around, and pretty seminal as well.
