Should be in already. Brilliant, timely, and social commentators. A wealth of great tunes.

Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride define the 60s as much as any songs do from the era. Plus the former coined the phrase heavy metal. Unfortunately there is not much else to their legacy to really warrant getting in. Still deserve it over the Dave Clark Five though!

John Kay & Steppenwolf should be in the Rock& Roll Hall of Fame. They were around for 40 years. That's a lot longer than some of the groups from the 60's. I had the pleasure of seeing one of their last concerts in Monroe, WA, which I traveled 3,000 miles to see. Here's my 5 star vote for John &the guys.

I liked "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride", but besides those, too many of their songs sound the same. A major exception would be their version of Hoyt Axton's "Snowblind Friend" which is great.

Obvious first-balloters. What the hell? Who ARE those people selecting Hall of Famers?

Let's help bring some closure to this magic carpet ride. These guys were born to be in the hall. I'm a pusher man to include them. Kay?

should be in

If the rolling stones are in steppenwolf should be too - I remember seeing them in 1967 and their music was in all the hangouts - they were hot - vote for Doug Sahm

They should get in for their early work which includes most of their hits. Born To Be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride are Rock staples! The later stuff of course became quite self indulgent and drugged out. John Kay has become a real jerk to the estranged members and former friends. I felt sad for the one guy on VH-1 who said he was sorry but John Kay just laughed at him. JK should get over it and accept the award with his old bandmates.

They have a decent catalog of music, with biggest hits being Magic Carpet Ride and BTBW. If they are not in by now, they may never make it. John Kay owns most of their music because of greed by the other members of the group.

Some great rockers but won't make the RRHF.
MartyP 04/08/2005
Give me a break, BTBW is a rock anthem & thay have more hits than a lot of bands already inducted.
RayG 04/07/2005
BTBW, Sookie Sookie, Snow Blind Friend, Hey Lawdy Mama, Ride With Me, The Pusher, Don't Step On The Grass Sam, Never Too Late, Monster, The Ostrich, Rise And Shine, The Wall, Rock Me, Magic Carpet Ride, Power Play, Renegade, Screaming Night Hog, Faster Than Speed Of Life, For Ladies Only and on and on ya they should have been in long ago.
alpepper 03/23/2005
They have a valid case. Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet Rides are classics. The Monster LP was a conscious raiser and was a great '60s album. But they're kind of like Roger Maris -- if they ain't in by now, then they'll never get in.
Djahuti 11/16/2004
If they had more songs like the Pusher, they'd get 5 stars! They were a decent band, and not afraid to get political once in awhile.
CastleBee 06/12/2004
I would say YES and For Born to Be Wild alone! What a great song!
