 | FranksWildYears (48) 03/05/2008 | Didn't make enough of a dent stateside charts to get consideration in an Ameican Institution like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they produced a singularly unique, high quality body of work and were as influential as Bowie on the better music of the late 70's, early 80's.

 | mjhaag (3) 01/26/2007 | Just as influential and deserving as Velvet Underground and definitely more successful (but that's not saying much)

 | Lorelei5 (0) 01/18/2007 | Roxy Music stand head and shoulders above almost all of the music that came out of the UK in the early 70s. They paved the way for so many others even right up until today's music

After Deep Purple and Genesis, maybe there is room.

 | siren007 (0) 12/28/2005 | The most influential band from England ever. There are many bands out there and many bands from the past that should pay Bryan Ferry royalties. Not only for mimicking the style of Roxy Music but in some cases sounding like karaoke versions of them!

 | julienbenney (1) 12/15/2005 | A band that should already be in - should have been in many years ago if the Hall Of Fame was to give induction to those who deserved. This despite the fact that their success in the US was very modest, their influence on many genres of music ought to get them inducted sooner rather than later.
Roxy were the first band that showed music that could be appreciated by an adult audience never had to be bland or passionless. At their best on "Stranded" and "Country Life" thier music is totally ecstatic, swinging in the freest manner from high to low and leaving any listener eager for more. No band in rock can match the energy of Roxy's best work. Ferry's voice expresses feeling like no other in rock.
Moreover, their finale "Avalon" was a work of amazingly feminine beauty that really makes one dream. Probably no record has had so many failed imitations as "Avalon", and "The Main Thing" and the title tune should be on any list of essential songs of the modern era.

 | ElvisC (0) 12/04/2005 | Two fantastic albums, Sirens and Avalon, a decade apart that sound nothing alike -- not many bands can say that -- Beatles, U2.

 | JOB (0) 09/24/2005 | Roxy Music was one of the most influential bands of the 70s - along with Bowie, providing the the generational link between the 60s and 80s. Their early and late creations are cited as groundbreaking and influential by whole scores of acts to follow -- Bowie himself, U2, Talking Heads, Duran Duran, The Cars, Radiohead, S and the Banshees, Psy Furs, Nirvana, Kraftwerk, Ryan Adams, ABC, The Smiths, The Cure and the list goes on. The band claims the most critically acclaimed debut ever, and the CD that produced the most offspring (literally, Avalon).

Pre-dated and influenced the New Wave-Punk-alternative scene with ambient, catchy, funky tunes. Absolutely brilliant!

 | glamcandy (0) 03/27/2005 | All these chumps knocking Roxy are probably commenting on the one video they remeber from 1982.
Anyone who has listened to a reasonable portion of their catalogue has to agree that they are one of the most ground-breaking and influential bands of all time. Any band who writes dark and tortured torch songs about blow-up sex dolls gets my vote.
