Maybe based on her songwriting (which she is already in for). But absolutely NOT for her performing.
lagirlvt 07/03/2009
I went to the New York annex of the RRHOF today, and was shocked beyond belief that Patti Smith and Chritina Aguilara are in the HOF but Carole King is not. So many artists who got where they are by standing on Carole King's (and Gerry Goffin's) shoulders are in, but she is not. I mean, really, Madonna but not Carole King?! Patti LaBelle (no disrespect to her at all) but not Carole King?! I am going to look into how this could be, and start the process for her to get this recognition. I mean, she has been writing songs that other people made famous since the 1960's....she GAVE "You've Got a Friend" to her good friend, James Taylor in the early '70's when they were performing with their other good friend Joni Mitchell at the Troubador in L.A.....she GAVE it to him and suggested that he put it out as a single. This alone should earn her a place in the HOF.....she's a giant and she's one of the most talented singer/songwriters of my generation. This is a travesty and needs to be corrected.

Tapestry is one of the most important albums ever released in popular music as well as one of the most popular. She didn't burn out after either like many think. She had two more number 1 albums and a handful of other gold selling records too. Being in as a Songwriter in the 60s is not giving Ms. King enough respect!

after Neil Diamond

It is beyond bizarre that she is not in the HOF as a performer. "Tapestry" was a watershed album. "So Far Away", "I Feel the Earth Move" and "It's Too Late" were all great songs, not to mention "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?"; she also co-wrote and has performed "You've Got a Friend" and "Up on the Roof." A voice with soul and heart. What's left to discuss?
MadeInCanada 04/07/2008
it's too late, baby

Carol Kings writing is fantastic and her arrangements are definitely first rate. She deserves to be in the hall of fame.
marathonmannjo 4 09/30/2007
This is one of the bigest travesties -- "Tapestry" paved the way for all of the singer-songwriters who followed.
eddiecook 05/25/2007
Sure. Why not?
Caspery 04/07/2007
Pros: Tapestry was a landmark album. Cons: She's already in the Hall Of Fame as a songwriter, which therefore includes her writing credits on her own recordings. Most of recording career is passable.
WuzUp 03/27/2007
all my life's a tapestry
beentalkingjes us 03/16/2007
ur already in the hall as a song writer
ma duron 02/14/2007
She and Gerry Goffin were inducted together for their songwriting into 1) the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and 2) the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
MapleRock 01/27/2007
1 great album, several good songs. A terrific writer.
waitsfan 01/16/2007
Carole King is a musical idol of mine. Though that is mainly her songwriting, she deserves entry for Tapestry alone, and much more for all she's written and performed before and since. Style, grace, and substance personified.
TENofTEN 12/24/2006
Gee I thought she was already in it!
dennyd 09/09/2006
She was a significant hit-maker at the start of RR, as song co-writer with Jerry Geoffin in the Brill Building, and later an equily talented preformer/song writer, of imense popularity and appeal. Her impact was felt both ways, and it's hard to believe that at this point we are only talking about her induction. It's not TOO Late Baby....
boromax 07/18/2006
OK. Inducting James Taylor (for example) without inducting Carole King is just WRONG!
southparker9 07/16/2006
I think without doubt, she should be in, and they do too. She was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. The thing is, it was in the non-performer category. Her album Tapestry is one of the most commercially successful, and well received albums of all time. She wrote so many songs that other people turned into hits. These songs include. "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", "Take Good Care of My BabyOne Fine Day", "Up on the Roof", "Don't Bring Me Down", "I'm Into Something Good", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", and "You've Got A Friend". She's one of the most significant women in music.
magoo3985 04/27/2006
Tough one because she is already in as a songwriter. Tapestry is a masterpiece, bu I'm guessing the Hall put her in as a songwriter, so they wouldn't have to induct her as an artist.
marto 03/12/2006
she was mpore of a songwriter than a singer. she is already in for beeing a songwriter
Molfan 03/04/2006
she has been contributing to the music industry since she was a teenager, singing and most of all song writer. what she has not sung herself has provided other singers with some good songs. she should have that honor if she already did not.
musfan 12/30/2005
By ‘Rock and Roll’ hall of fame, I believe they mean popular music in general as from memory Nat Cole was inducted. Carole is a genius, sure everyone says that about their favourite artists but she influenced the Beatles. They amongst Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald and Dusty Springfield and others have covered her songs. Her Tapestry album became the biggest seller on the planet back in 1971. It aided her in winning the Grammy grand slam (a feat NO one has equalled) and its success was the whole reason the platinum award was introduced by the RIAA. Her success continued after that too. She has a great voice – just cause you can’t hit the notes Whitney can doesn’t mean you can’t sing a song. Also she is one of the greatest piano players of the rock era (arrangers too). As a man her non-inclusion as a perfumer reeks of sexism.
UrethraMiacin 12/28/2005
she made me feel like a natural woman
Oh Neil 12/16/2005
You folks who don't think she should be in as a performer obviously do not know that Tapestry alone should be the reason she should be in-it is a masterpiece -never mind the hit albums that followed. It is a travesty of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that does not include her as a perfomer-there are already many lesser talents in as performers-making it the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame!
c_girl 12/16/2005
She is so amazing I love her voice. She should definately be recognized as a performer.
ElvisC 12/04/2005
She is already in as a writter. Tapastry was not influential enough to get her in as a musician.
AmazingEEE 12/03/2005
Her solo career is impressive enough for her induction as a performer, despite already (deservedly) being in as a non-performer. Tapestry was a massive success both artistically and commercially.
garjen55 11/30/2005
Gerry Goffin and Carole King are in as a non-performers (for their songwriting), but so many people want her voted in as a performer, because it was in her performing years (when Tapestry was released) that she was writing by herself.
Habs10 11/29/2005
Great, great songwroter and should be in for that alone. tapesty is icing on the cake, but most folks only know here from her records, not her first career as a writer as the cream of with the Brill Building song-scribers.
Diamond Dave 11/27/2005
Yes..as a writer She will always be remembered for tapestry, but as a brill building writter deserves to be in their. Along with the Neils. Barry & Cynthia, Jeff & Ellie. Call it the "Brill Building Writers" or somethng, but these guys shiould be in there.
klsm54 10/22/2005
What? You have got to be kidding me! How can she not be in there. The whole place is a sham!
FuzzyJ 09/23/2005
One of the premiere female singer/songwriters of the last 40 years! In as a songwriter.....deserves to be in as a performer as well simply for the number of people who owned (and were influenced by!) TAPESTRY!
souljunkie 08/25/2005
Without boring you with history, she should be a shoe in. One of the few great women in Rock and roll/r&b and contemporary music.
Pfft 05/25/2005
Carol King was really not that big...and her songs were not very Rock and Rollish...so for the HOF? Nah I don't think so.
JudasPriest666 05/13/2005
She's already in!!! She shouldn't be on this list!!!
journey2006 05/06/2005
She's already in for something, plus there are many more deserving artist then her like Van Halen, Journey, and John Mellencamp
candle4u 04/27/2005
Gifted writer, sweet voice & lovely lady! Well earned honor.
Elle13 04/14/2005
Gifted writer and musician. Genius.. yes.
LauraJB 03/31/2005
She is a great.
AnthonyPeace 03/30/2005
she is in the rock hall i am member of the hall she is in the songwriters category .. so....along with her partner there gerry goffin ...in 1990 they where both inducted to the hall... so unless this is for her as a performer ... could take awhile ... very few double inducties in the hall as in a band and solo or non performer as in ... songwriter or producer so time will tell good thread tho.... dig Anthony
mistershivers 03/29/2005
This is rock and roll. Nice music, great songwriter....but also not deserving in my opinion
MrHandy 03/27/2005
Sorry...not a Rock and Roller
CanadaSucks 03/27/2005
Not on the basis of incredible album sales, but I just love her voice.
Skizero 03/23/2005
a great songwriter for many an artist. and had one singular classic album. but one record does not a career performer make. i do believe there is a songwriter's HOF.
Lester1952 03/10/2005
Prior to Tapestry,: Carole has been the driving force of Rock & Roll in the early 60's.
barbkaye57 01/27/2005
She should have been one of the first-Tapestry one of the most brilliant pieces of work in music.
coleslough 09/10/2004
yup...influential on alot of things
