Tapestry alone and those songs on top of all she has ever done. What female artist out there was one of the original driving forces of early Rock and Roll and moved forward like Carol king? Just another rediculous bypass.

Need to say more about this woman? It's a shame she's not already in the hall of fame what makes this whole hall of fame a joke. Singer, songwriter. Great pianoplayer and admired by millions and millions because of her music. Not just music.. GREAT MUSIC!!!!!!!! Shame on you!!! By the way... same counts for the carpenters..

She is a fine songwriter but aside from her landmark Tapestry and a number of memorable hit singles, but as a performer not really Hall material

She's already in as a non-performer, did not stand out too much as a performer

Nice Jewish girl who is the greatest female hit machine in rock. Her career spans nearly the entire history of rock & roll: her first hit was in 1961, just six years after Rock Around the Clock became a hit. I keep reading about her not being "deserving" of live performance status. Do I detect a smidgen of male chauvinism here?

Carole had an amazing talent and to play piano at such a young age was astounding. I still own an original copy of the Tapestry album and although I don't listen to it in order to preserve the vinyl, I still enjoy listening to her on cd.

If you have Carole King's Greatest Hits, then you already know not all the songs on there are from Tapestry. Yes, Tapestry was/is a great album but she had other hits and her soundtrack album Really Rosie also sold well (thanks to her music and Maurice Sendak's stories set to music). Another hit she had was "Hard Rock Cafe," which is also not on Tapestry. My point is, as a performer, she most definitely deserves the honor.

I went to the New York annex of the RRHOF today, and was shocked beyond belief that Patti Smith and Chritina Aguilara are in the HOF but Carole King is not. So many artists who got where they are by standing on Carole King's (and Gerry Goffin's) shoulders are in, but she is not. I mean, really, Madonna but not Carole King?! Patti LaBelle (no disrespect to her at all) but not Carole King?! I am going to look into how this could be, and start the process for her to get this recognition. I mean, she has been writing songs that other people made famous since the 1960's....she GAVE "You've Got a Friend" to her good friend, James Taylor in the early '70's when they were performing with their other good friend Joni Mitchell at the Troubador in L.A.....she GAVE it to him and suggested that he put it out as a single. This alone should earn her a place in the HOF.....she's a giant and she's one of the most talented singer/songwriters of my generation. This is a travesty and needs to be corrected... Read more

Tapestry is one of the most important albums ever released in popular music as well as one of the most popular. She didn't burn out after either like many think. She had two more number 1 albums and a handful of other gold selling records too. Being in as a Songwriter in the 60s is not giving Ms. King enough respect!

It is beyond bizarre that she is not in the HOF as a performer. "Tapestry" was a watershed album. "So Far Away", "I Feel the Earth Move" and "It's Too Late" were all great songs, not to mention "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?"; she also co-wrote and has performed "You've Got a Friend" and "Up on the Roof."  A voice with soul and heart. What's left to discuss?

Pros: Tapestry was a landmark album. Cons: She's already in the Hall Of Fame as a songwriter, which therefore includes her writing credits on her own recordings. Most of recording career is passable.

Carole King is a musical idol of mine. Though that is mainly her songwriting, she deserves entry for Tapestry alone, and much more for all she's written and performed before and since. Style, grace, and substance personified.

She was a significant hit-maker at the start of RR, as song co-writer with Jerry Geoffin in the Brill Building, and later an equily talented preformer/song writer, of imense popularity and appeal. Her impact was felt both ways, and it's hard to believe that at this point we are only talking about her induction. It's not TOO Late Baby....

Tough one because she is already in as a songwriter. Tapestry is a masterpiece, bu I'm guessing the Hall put her in as a songwriter, so they wouldn't have to induct her as an artist.

she has been contributing to the music industry since she was a teenager, singing and most of all song writer. what she has not sung herself has provided other singers with some good songs. she should have that honor if she already did not.

By ‘Rock and Roll’ hall of fame, I believe they mean popular music in general as from memory Nat Cole was inducted. Carole is a genius, sure everyone says that about their favourite artists but she influenced the Beatles. They amongst Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald and Dusty Springfield and others have covered her songs. Her Tapestry album became the biggest seller on the planet back in 1971. It aided her in winning the Grammy grand slam (a feat NO one has equalled) and its success was the whole reason the platinum award was introduced by the RIAA. Her success continued after that too. She has a great voice – just cause you can’t hit the notes Whitney can doesn’t mean you can’t sing a song. Also she is one of the greatest piano players of the rock era (arrangers too). As a man her non-inclusion as a perfumer reeks of sexism.

You folks who don't think she should be in as a performer obviously do not know that Tapestry alone should be the reason she should be in-it is a masterpiece -never mind the hit albums that followed. It is a travesty of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that does not include her as a perfomer-there are already many lesser talents in as performers-making it the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame!

Her solo career is impressive enough for her induction as a performer, despite already (deservedly) being in as a non-performer. Tapestry was a massive success both artistically and commercially.

Gerry Goffin and Carole King are in as a non-performers (for their songwriting), but so many people want her voted in as a performer, because it was in her performing years (when Tapestry was released) that she was writing by herself.

Great, great songwroter and should be in for that alone. tapesty is icing on the cake, but most folks only know here from her records, not her first career as a writer as the cream of with the Brill Building song-scribers.

Yes..as a writer She will always be remembered for tapestry, but as a brill building writter deserves to be in their. Along with the Neils. Barry & Cynthia, Jeff & Ellie. Call it the "Brill Building Writers" or somethng, but these guys shiould be in there.

One of the premiere female singer/songwriters of the last 40 years! In as a songwriter.....deserves to be in as a performer as well simply for the number of people who owned (and were influenced by!) TAPESTRY!
