An imporatn female muscian in the 70s but Carole King was more important and deserves to be in first!

Carly Simon is an excellent singer/songwriter. "Anticipation" and "You're so Vain" are timeless. Other songs that are noteworthy are "Coming around Again", "Like a River", "Touched by the Sun" which was written in remembrance of Jackie Onassis. Her career and her success has stretched well beyond thirty years. She is deserving.

Although part of the singer/songwriter movement, Carly Simon's work was the most "pop" of the group and suffered in comparision with the really eccentric female artists of her time and beyond. function. Whilst her work is very pleasant to listen to, it lacks the kind of cutting edge that would be needed to make it stand out even at the best of times, and later in her career she was generally tepid, almost "new age" in sound. More likely to get in than most female artists of her category, she should not be a first choice by any means. I'm probably generous in my rating here, more like 2.5 stars actually.

A great singer/songwriter with an important body of work. Accessible lyrics and unsual melodies have always been her strength. She has had chart hits from the 1964 through 2005.

Love Carly to death - my favorite female vocalist for 30+ years now! - but in the Rock Hall? Hmmmm. I'd have to say....yes, only because there's no other Hall for her to be in, and she's deserving of induction somewhere! Plus, when Carly rocked ("Nightowl", "In Pain", "Vengeance"), she ROCKED!!!

I love her music, but has she done that much for the industry...?

There aren't many artists who have been releasing quality albums for over thirty years - Carly Simon is one of them. She has been cited as an influence by many of the new generation of female singer/songwriters. If artists like Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, and Jackson Browne, then Carly Simon deserves to be in the Hall of Fame as well, without a doubt.

The Hall of Fame is way too concerned with hipness and it isn't hip to admit that female singer songwriters besides Joni Mitchell made some great music in the 70s. Carole King should also be in along with Carly as a recording artist, not just a writer.

Why is James Taylor (whom I like) a shoe in, but Carly is not even nominated?...Something is very wrong here. As far as not "being rock", what constitutes rock anyway?..If the queen of soul (aretha ) is inducted and the King of Pop is in twice (solo and as part of the Jackson 5) then why not someone who is folk/rock?

Im not sure about the Hall Of Fame but Jesse is my favorite song.

Excellent artist. YES.

Once again, a noteworthy 70's artist but not in the rock n roll category.
