I believe the terrorist attacks occuured because of the anti-zionist and nazi-facist propaganda which is taught by some radical islamists who commited the attacks in support the oppressed and occupied territories. 65 UN Resolutions, defiance of International Law, Human Rights Abuse is just too much. I support Israel's right to exist but I am firmly against the brutal and unfair occupation in the name of security. The inaction to settle this conflict fairly brought the attacks on us and they will continue until we can come to grips with this. Peace in the middle East will stop the Attacks not war.

Yes. I would add that I agreed with Afganistan, as long as we stay and help those people this time. Iraq was iffy, again, we need to make sure we stay and help (not help ourselves to their oil! ;)). Iran and N. Korea -- BAD idea!

Yes...a more balanced approach to Palestinian independence is sorely needed.

Everyone knows that the problem in the Middle East stems from America's unquestioning support of Israel. No country that continually has to uphold a defense against others can be a psychologically happy place. The Israelis themselves know that they should share the land they stole from the Palestinians - these peoples share a long history, but it needn't continue in such hatred. They could decide that a friendship will be the new way and be a shining example to the world. Unfortunately, childish personal agendas of Arafat and Sharon prevent this. America could lean heavily on Sharon to stop him stirring it in the Middle East.

Yes I think US policy should change. We should take a more violent responce towards the middle east includeing stopping all support of Israel. It is not our responsibility to support Israels war to occupy land that they do not belong especially when it is one of the direct causes of the attack on The Pentagon and the WTC in New York.

The terrorist attacks on the 11th of september were sickining! The world came to a stand still and united in their disgust and outrage at the attacks. But before the U.S. goes in with guns blazing and starting what may be world war 3 they sould stop and think about why the Afghan extremists felt the need to cause such extereme distruction. I'm not condoning terroorism in any way, shape or form but i don't think starting world war 3 is going to help anyone. The people responsible for the attacks on america must be brought to justice but attacking a third world country at the expence of countles numbers of lives(including american) is plain and simply wrong! You also have to take into consideration the posible retaliation tactics which the Afgahn extremists might and more than likely will use against America and other countries which support the attacks. No one's a winner here!

I firmly believe that if our nation's leaders consider this, they may begin to undo the blatant bias in our Mid-East policy towards Israel. I believe it is possible to have extensive ties with all nations and cultures without intentionally offending other cultures' sensibilities. The facts are this: 1) the Arab world sees the U.S. as too cozy to Israel and Israeli interests, 2) Israel is also the only representative democracy in the Middle East, 3) collective Western guilt resulting from doing too little to save Europe's Jews from the resulting Holocaust has dictated America's policy in her unwavering support of Israel since May 14, 1948. Perhaps if America and the West had bothered to take into consideration the history of the Middle East when the Balfour Declaration was put into play, perhaps the 9/11 tragedy may possibly have never taken place. What we have been witnessing is now coming around to bite us in the butt.

this is key - although there is no excuse for terrorism, US policy has been crap over the decades in the region.

Stop putting OIL above PEOPLE. As Solomom did with the baby in dispute: divide the land evenly between Israel & Palestine. Let them both be unhappy for a while.

The United States really needs to take a look at what their real interests are.

If our policy on the Middle east is what I think it is, then I say we change it (that being, if our policy is "Kill all Iraqis, Arabs, Afghans, Iranians, etc.") However, I don't think revising our supposed policy would help. What do we want to do, inform starving Iraqi children that we won't help them because they are Middle Eastern? LU-DI-CROUS! I think we need to center in on the culprits, not their countries.

Israel is a democratic state whose people barely escaped extermination 50 years ago. The West must continue to support her against the hate-ridden fanatics who seek her destruction.

I absolutely do not think we should revise our current strategy in the Middle East. I believe we should strengthen our current policy. The reality of the matter is that most Arabs do not hate Israel or what they stand for. It is a small minority of religious zealots who seek to only cause unrest in the region. In addition, I do believe that the United States has a unique stake in the survival of the Israeli state. It is our obligation to ensure that Israel is safe from it's Arab neighbors who would like to see Israel driven into the Meditteranean. Some Arabs do not like our policy, but it's nothing personal. There has been unrest in the "Cradle of Civilization" for 6,000 years and basically I do not see an end to the hostilities. While most Arab people would like to see democracy come to their countries, unfortunately, the political framework of those countries simply does not permit it. Arab governments work from a totalitarian point of view, that is simply the Arab mentality and most people simply accept it. It should not go without mentioning that I do believe that some countries in the Middle East would be great candidates for a democratic government. Iran is a good example of this. I believe that in order for a working democracy to function in Iran, we would have to lift sanctions on the country to open it up economically. This is one area of Middle East policy that I would change, I do think that it is time to open up Iran to trade. They are an open people who simply desire to be free. That country has always been more liberal than other Arab states, unfortunately, a fundamentalist government took over Iran in 1980. We must get tough on Saddam Hussein in Iraq and possibly begin to support the opposition more aggressively. It is time that we rid the world of this menace once and for all. U.S. policy towards the Middle East must remain in a steady course. We do have plenty of support in the Arab world and to give up on Israel would be a travesty; they are the only democracy in the Middle East and it shows. Despite the fact that there is a total dearth of natural resources within Israel, they have managed to build the most dynamic economy in the Middle East. Let's just say steady for now.

We need to protect Israel from those narrow-minded, violent Palestinians.
