The terrorists don't like this. It's happening today in Iraq and, to a lesser degree, in Afghanistan. They prefer to strike against innocents, civilians going to work, children playing in the street, women shopping. They make more emotional targets and they don't shoot back. Bush is the first US President to take on terrorists with the US military, head to head. I believe that this is the single overriding reason that there has been essentially no follow-up attacks on US soil after 9/11/01. As our intelligence-gathering capability grows (not that you and I would notice) more and more terrorist leaders are quietly rounded up. Tell me again that you can't fight terrorism this way. Were we safer when we simply pledged to bring them to justice, then turned the other way hoping the problem would go away? When we refused to capture a world reknowned terrorist for fear of the geo-political fallout?

My friends, some of you threaten to bring naivety to dangerous levels. Forgive? We should just forgive, and then wait for the next terrorist attack? You seem to be under the assumption that the terrorists will wake up one morning and realize that the killing of innocent civilians is wrong. My friend, it isn't so. It's never going to happen. Terrorists are always going to want to kill us- there's no way around it. I suppose that here at home, when a man goes out and murders ten people in cold blood, that we should just "forgive" him? We didn't START this war! We weren't the ones flying the planes into the buildings. We weren't the ones who killed 3,000 innocent people. We weren't the ones who destroyed families all across the nation. It is the job of the United States Armed Forces to defend and protect the security of the American people. We must lead a full-fledged charge against terrorism.

A truly ridiculous notion. First, terrorists don't typically stand out in the open with labels saying "Al Qaeda" on them, so how does one identify the terrorist so that the military can engage it? Second, this is not our military's mission, nor should it be in the present or future: our military's job, theoretically, is to protect our shores, and in actuality, is to protect U.S. corporate interests. Third, we've seen what fiascos occur when the jingo sabre-rattlers in the Douche Administration blindly and ill-advisedly go on military misadventures for the sake of the nebulous and hokey "war on terror." Namely, the trashing of third world countries with little, weak or no demonstratable connections to terrorism, and the ensuing wholesale murder of its innocent civilians. Interesting that the real, major supporters of terrorism, the country that probably had the strongest tie to 9/11, namely Saudi Arabia, is being given a free pass by the Douche Administration. Instead of identifying these kazoonies as the true enemy, the Pretender-In-Chief ends up rubbing tushies with the Saudi Royal Family at his dirtfarm in Crawford instead. Handjob and his people/bosses, and those fossils in the Pentagon haven't a clue how to deal with this terrorism issue in the very least. Seems they're using outmoded, WWII generation solutions, ineffectively, of course, in the here and now, or they think this is the Cold War Redux and approaches similiar to those used then can be employed. Well, this isn't the Cold War Redux, folks, and most measures taken during that 50-year continued blunder were ineffective anyway, so the Douche Administration's handling of all this has hardly been confidence-inspiring.

I believe using U.S. Soldiers is the best way to go about combating terrorism. They are the very best at "Combating" the enemy. I believe that Soldiers are the best way to go because they are all volunteers and there is nothing stroger then the heart of a volunteer. Mercenaries would not even be an option because they will only fight for a country that can give them a good bit of money and you have that possibility of them turning on you. Those terrorists on 9-11 being the F*CKING cowards they are, attacked our cicivilans on our OWN soil so what should we do sit idly with our thumbs up our asses? HAH, hardly! So sending over Rangers, Paratroopers, and more Special Forces troops to fight them on THEIR soil is a very justified thing to do. For the loss of life that didnt even deserve to be lost from the dastardly attack of 9-11 these rotten bastards can enjoy being shot back at

Houmusician, yet again proving he knows nothing about politics. Do you think Saddam Hussein is a terrorist? I hate to destroy all you American Patriots but Saddam Hussein came to power in a revolution and does not use terror for a purpose (therefore not a terrorist) and he was supported by the Americans in this revolution! There, now go along and salute your Butcher's Apron (your flag) along with your other murdering friends, England!

Why shouldnt we? This people attack us, what are we supposed to do? Just sit back and watch? We tried that during Clintons eight years, which brought us directly too 9-11. Dont look at your religoius beliefs (im going to take hell for this) but how do you know that God woulndt want us too attack when no one has seen him? I think God would be on my side- we cant sit back and watch this- lets blow all of them too hell.

The time for talk is over. These people are barbarians and must be treated as such. And now is not the time to let simpering allies who hide behind our coat tails, Third Worlders who just fell out of the trees, or liberal Hate-America-Firsters stop us. It's kill or be killed.

The things we do in the name of oil. The United States isn't rushing to attack north Korea!! We have spent 100's of millions of dollars blowing up rocks in Afganistan. While our school systems are failing and certain portions of American society do not have basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, running water, indoor septic systems, etc.) the U.S. is slated to rebuild that country's infrastructure. Let's protect and rebuild America first! American spends billions of dollars trying to globally police the world (Bosnia, Croatia, etc.), solve ethnic and religous strife in other regions and provide military and economic assistance our allies. To what end?

The U.S. military, the CIA, whatever it takes. These people need to be stoped. They are a threat to this nation that can not go unchecked. They killed thousands on 911 and will kill more if they have there way. Lets not give them ther way.

I took a quick look before I gave my opinion but I already saw some people whining and lending to 'forgivness' and why should we go to war and it just makes me wanna puke! I bet if it was these queers family or loved ones they wouldn't be talking this S---! 9/11 was enough in itself to goto war. Saddam has tortured and starved people in his own country and would kill Americans in a second if he could. Being American means that youre willing to die for your country men and for the sake of the free world. if you dont think we have the reasons, then LEAVE!! we dont need any more cowards and religious fanantics to fight for freedom anyway.

Using the military to strike against terrorists is a good idea provided there be safeguards to protect our troops, the innocent, and our country. First off, no troops shall be forced against their will to participate in any armed conflict. All soldiers must be "true" volunteers, able to join AND able to quit. The benefits of protecting this right would improve the moral and effeciency of the armed services, as well as, upholding the fundamental right not to kill. Don't be fearful of mass departures, there are more willing to go than not. Second, our strikes against terrorist must be in line with Justice. Nuking Afghanistan or Iraq is not the answer, working as investigators to bring the culprits forth is. And lastly, the strikes must benefit our national security. Protecting our great nation against those who would wish us harm is paramount.

Pacifism is kind of like the kid on the bus that gets made fun of every day and goes home crying because he never stands up for himself. Simply doing nothing will not cause the reality of the situation to change. Seeking a peaceful resolution with bullies is also inadvisable, as it shows weakness in the face of battle. Modern pacifism states that we must simply avoid war at all costs and seek peaceful resolutions through "dialogue." It is more simply war-mongering for our enemies. We know that they will never cease to terrorize us unless they have been forced into relinquishing power through the greatest of sacrifices...through that of their lives. Peace is the greatest of all ideals...but this characteristic also makes it the most unrealistic. Man is constantly at a state of confict. Man cannot be made equal through concessions, war, or dialogue. We must fight for our survival, because if we don't, you can damn well bet that the enemy is going to take it away from us.

Before 9/11 I didn't hear one soul say they wanted to declare a war on ANYONE. But, did these mutant nutballs leave us a logical choice OTHER than to strike back? I don't think so. And guess what everyone - if the U.S. goes down it will be like dominos throughout the civilized world. So unless you want to do the time warp right back to 2002 BC then why not at least try to understand what's really going on in the world.

I don't understand how peolple can be so ignorant to believe that we can get rid of every terrorist in the world or in the US alone. It will not happen unless mankind is totally wiped out. The use of the millitary forces is not to do away with terrorist but to do away with peolpe who have strong beliefs and have been fingured for a crime that they are not taking the bid for. Aknowldge the fact that we experience terrorism everyday through our media in our homes. We believe everything smitten on paper and everything that is whispered in our ears. The media uses the power of gossip and rumors to mold the minds of the masses.

This is most likely to happen. But war is never a good thing, it just kills even more people than this "thingy" already has. I mean, 10 000 lives arn't worth a war against a poor, corrupt country, now are they? Why not just let this act of terrorism against the pentagon and the twin towers pass by? Why do we always have to get so wroked up for something like this? I mean, that's not even a close number to all the people who are killed of ither terrorism attacks EVERY day. So, please, don't read to much out of this. If Usama bin Laden wants to have a war, don't follow his act. That's just plain stupid.

I really feel that this runs too high a risk of killing more innocent people and missing the terrorists. I wish that there was an easy answer to this problem.

I am a committed Christian and a devout pacifist. I deplore all forms of aggression and violence and it saddens me that my President is using the same approach that the Soviets did against a population that, but for the presence of a kook in their midst, has done nothing to warrant its being attacked. I ask the question, Why? For what long-term, constructive purpose? How will using a First World military against a Third World society win us friends in this part of the world? I really don't believe we have explored all our options in dealing with Osama bin Laden. I deeply believe that we are acting irresponsibly in this regard. Jesus said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." By militarily attacking Afghanistan, we are certainly not behaving as Jesus would want us to behave towards our fellow man.

Now, come on, Rateitall. You know that's just a code for "start a war". I think we Americans need to keep one thing in mind: Anyone can fight. Anyone can kill. Anyone can build up a big military and blow the heads off fellow humans. But only a great people, only a people who can see other options besides killing, can forgive. We must not waste the lives of young Americans just because we want to blow a couple of Afghans to smithereens. And for the record---I think the saddest thing, the most despicable thing of all, is the way some of us are treating Muslims and Arabs. I mean, I have seen with my very eyes people who call themselves Americans giving these people nasty looks and saying terrible things. This is absolutely ludicrous. Nuts. STUPID. Now back to the subject---only the greatest people of all can accomplish forgiveness. After all, didn't your Jesus supposedly teach you to love your enemies?

Using the military to attack terriorists is a great idea in the abstract, but this is not attacking individual countries; this is attacking various faceless and nameless organizations. Yes, we can weaken various terrorist organization groups by attacking terrorist training camps, destroying ammunitions factories etc... Ultimately, war in the 21st Century will be this way. Unfortunately, easier travel and communications allows our enemies to infiltrate our borders a lot more easily than in the past. September 11th 2001 showed us that it is very easy for our enemies to enter our borders and I believe that we need to look for ways to stop terrorist attacks domestically. A possibility would be to tighten security on all of our borders to ensure that foreign terrorists do not enter our country in any way.
