 | PTRoxieMisha (3) 09/03/2004 | I love them, but my mom hates them! I think they're the most complicated problems in math, but I love to challenge myself with 'em.

 | winter_spirit (2) 08/01/2004 | The beauty of mathematics is having numbers, symbols and such, and not having them mingled in with words. Instead of just solving a mathematical equation, you have to translate the words into mathematical figures, which is trickier than solving because there aren't rules for this conversion (it's mainly logic) and often words are misleading and ambiguous. Of course any middle schooler can solve word problems for basic functions like addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, but as you get into more complicated mathematical concept (such as quadratics), you'll wish you can murder the man who thought up of word problems.

 | Sundiszno (30) 07/22/2004 | I like word problems. They really make you think about what's going on. It's not just like having a bunch of numbers in front of you, laid out in exactly the order you have to deal with them (i.e., add, subtract, multiply, whatever). You have to figure out just how everything relates to everything else. It's more like a puzzle than just a straight math problem.

 | Jed1000 (72) 06/01/2004 | The worst sort of math problem. I remember always being suspicious that there was some trick aspect to the question that I was missing and that my calculations would be for nought because I was missing the obvious. To this day when I read something that begins something like.. If Jack has ten apples... my eyes glaze over.
