Danny White was a solid quarterback who had the misfortunate of inheiriting an aging team. He had to follow Staubach, so he was never going to be popular with the masses. White's win/loss percentage was solid and so were his stats for that era. He was also a good punter and solid overall athlete.

I agree entirely. Danny White was the reason I became a Cowboys fan. The man himself, Roger Staubach will tell you how good Danny White was as a quarterback. So many Cowboys fans that I know like to ridicule Danny for never taking the Cowboys to the Super Bowl. But as far as I'm concerned, Danny White is the reason the Cowboys stayed competitve for as long as they did. Neither Gary Hoogeboom or Steve Pelluar could lead the Cowboys to victory the way that Danny could. I remember in 1985 when the Cowboys were picked to be at the bottom of the division, and they surprised everyone and swept the Redskins and Giants that year and won the NFC East. Danny was able to win games against teams that on paper had much more superior talent than what he had. And in 1986, he was having his best season ever and looked like he had the Cowboys on track until that Giants game where he broke his wrist. The Cowboys were 6-2 under White and 1-7 under back up Steve Pelluar. In 1987, he wasn't the same QB. Yet he still had some flashes of greatness. I remember there was a game up in Washington where the Cowboys fell way behind in the first half, like 24-3. But in the second half, Danny's pinpoint passing nearly brought the Cowboys back to victory. And this was against the eventual Super Bowl Champions. Danny White was an outstanding quarterback. And he had never gotten the credit that he deserves. Unfortunantly for him, he followed a legend in Roger Staubach, and after Danny retired he got replaced by Troy Aikman, another eventual legend. Being sandwhiched in between two hall of fame quarterbacks will forever have Danny White remembered as the quarterback who couldn't take the Cowboys to the Super Bowl. Yet when you look at his statistics, they are every bit as good as both Staubach's and Aikman's. And that's with less games played.

The most underrated quarterback of alltime. White was very accurate with the football and tough as nails. This guy could play.

Danny White was an outstanding NFL quarterback and has never gotten the credit he deserves. I'm not making any excuses for him, but had a number of unfortunate events occur during his tenure at QB in Dallas. He had to follow NFL/ Cowboy legend Roger Staubach, 1980's Freezing weather for the NFC championship in Philadelphia, that Damn Catch in San Fran, but even worse the right offsensive lineman that did not block well enough against the SF defesive lineman causing White to fumble at the end of game while the Cowboys were ready to strike back. Poor blocking in the 1983 Championship game in Washington, knocking White out with a concussion. He had to deal with two strikes (1982, 1987). One in which his own teammates went against him for trying to end it. That Damn Gary Hogeboom causing a QB controvesy, and splitting the team up. He found out first hand how hard it was to be starter an continue to win as White did. Finally I remember Dallas looked like they were back on track to the Super Bowl in 1986 season. Danny was leading the NFL is passing when he broke his wrist in game 9 against the Giants. The won only one game for the rest season under Steve Pelluer and the Giants won the Super Bowl. After the recovering from a broken wrist and age, he was never really the same player. One other thing people seem to forget is that defense of the 80's gave up wayyyyyyyy to many points. Check the records for yourself. Staubach and Aikman did not have that problem with their defenses of the 70's and 90's. I would say White did throw to many interceptions in his career, but he was the No. 2 Rated QB for NFC twice in his career, went to one pro-bowl, had winning seasons every year he stared, but he didn't win the big. When people look back at Cowboys of the 1980's, Dammy White always seems to get the heat for not going to the Super Bowl instead of the team. As Drew Person once said Unfortunely, Danny White is not going to be remembered the way he should be remembered. I agree 100%. He is my all time favorite NFL player.
