In general, I think its a really bad idea, although the recent influx of grammar and spelling impaired lack-wits posting three word reviews is making me wonder about the validity of my own opinion.

Not users, but I have a different idea......... How about putting a user-specific checkbox on weblists, so that you can filter out entire weblists or even categories when you are browsing recent comments. That way you can just remove entire threads from cluttering up your browsing of recent postings. When logged on, by default, comments to all weblists would appear under recent comments, and you would have to identify the weblists that you had no interest in, such as, for instance, 'Proof that Goths are evil' in my case....The implementation would be similar to the 'I trust this user' checkbox when you look at someone's user page.

Again, I disagree. If you make a list, you are inviting comment/opinion. If you don't like it, ask someone else to create the list. No matter what your opinion, someone will disagree with you. If you dislike a specific person's comment well....their name comes up before the comment. Skip it.

Personally, one of the reasons I come on here is to get a better understanding of a view point that is opposite to mine. Thus, I doubt that I would use this feature often; there has been occasions where I would like to have it available so that I can weed out the comments of user notorious for their asinine statements. As long as the comments one reviewer weeds out doesn't affect what other reviewers see- who could this hurt? Sure it might make some less informed but that's their own option, I suppose.

Bad idea.

I'd agree with Kamylienne on this one - the ability to screen people out could get abused in a hurry.

If this were available, I wouldn't use it. Part of being open-minded is reading stuff that you don't necessarily agree with, and maybe you'll learn something new (or at least maybe get an understanding of where the other guy is coming from). Plus, there's a lot of people whose comments I can't stand in ONE topic, but they've made a lot of good points on other topics. Yeah, it might be tempting to remove all women are evil comments, but I'll be optimistic and hope that maybe, someday, they'll have something interesting to say.
