 | abichara (62) 11/18/2006 | I believe that Bloomberg is the only major politician on the map who's worth a good vote. Here you have an innovative manager who is results oriented, who first founded a financial information firm and turned it into a multi billion dollar operation. Once in politics, Bloomberg faced a daunting task; leading a city out of financial crisis in the wake of 9/11. Fear of terrorist attacks were creating an outmigration from the city, thus depleting the city's tax base. Bloomberg met the problem head on, and passed a prudent econmic growth package that ultimately got the city out of trouble. And he did benefit from the real estate boom that was sweeping the country, and ultimately helped to keep the broader economy afloat.
Generally regarded as a moderate, Bloomberg manages his office much like he did at his financial firm. He's pragmatist who judges the efficacy of programs through statistical, results based means. He likes to delegate day-to-day tasks to commissioners who are apolitical experts on their fields. In order to facilitate the flow of information, Bloomberg regularly holds intra-departmental meeting to see how "things are going". This encourages a sense of accountability with the employees. It's a tough job to run New York, but there have been definite inprovements in a wide range of fields, from education to public health. I think that his moderate persona has helped win him much public support, despite being a Republican in a very Democratic city. This is in contrast to Rudy Giuliani, who was also a competent manager, but was a bit more polarizing, especially with regards to police behavior. Bloomberg has stayed away from those controversies, and he's for the better for it.
Certainly the country would benefit from having someone like Bloomberg at the Presidency. Will he do it? I personally think he's the best man for the job. He would offer intelligent, balanced leadership for the country; something which we haven't seen here for a long time--maybe since Eisenhower and Kennedy's time!

 | williamb (0) 05/12/2006 | He does a very good job in what has to be one of the most difficult jobs in the country. As a self made millionaire in the private sector, he does at times seem stunned by the stupidity of the government workers he now has to deal with.

 | weatherdude (1) 02/12/2005 | If you've got the money, you've got the power. If you have the $$$ Power, you've pretty much guaranteed yourself a spot in office somewhere in the continental 48 as a politician.
