President Musharraf of Pakistan is basically being put between a rock and a hard place. On one side, he has to deal with the fundamentalists within his government and his country. On the other side, he has to deal with the United States and their allies, who would like use of Pakistani airspace in their struggle against terrorism. So far, he has appeared to have taken a balanced approach to the situation. We must remember that it is one of Osama bin Laden's goals to turn Pakistan into a fundamentalist Islamic state. If this occurs, then various terrorist organizations will have access to nuclear weaponery, being that Pakistan is the only Muslim country to have nuclear capabilities. It is a very delicate balancing act and I hope that Musharraf can do it.
