 | AndrewScott (71) 06/14/2004 | The Holocaust was a tragedy, as was Pearl Harbor and 9/11. It is true, however, that most losses from a war are viewed as statistics more so than a tragedy. Stalin, sociopath or not, is one of many historical world leaders who had deep disregard to masses of people dying too young. Losing many doesn't get viewed as a great tragedy if people believe they died for a valid reason. Context is everything. Tragedy is also defined by how much we like and can psychologically connect with the victims. Seeing individual faces can really underscore the tragedy.
