On the one hand, I believe, along with Lenny Bruce, that swear words are only words. Then again, I've been known to use them excessively, sometimes without even thinking, and I cringe sometimes when I do it. My mother once said, accurately, as we were watching some movie on DVD, "You know, if they didn't have the F-word available, they wouldn't know what to say." I actually remember being a kid, riding around the block with a few older kids, and them teaching me the different swear words..."No, Eddie, it's spelled S-H-*-T and it sounds like..." I guess I used these newfound words with great alacrity, as another one of my early memories is of my grandmother washing my mouth out with a bar of soap. Obviously, it had no long-term effect...

I've been known to be guilty of this. But damn it, I'm doing the best I ****ing can to watch my mouth.

Ah f***, I do it all the time...

Nahhhh, contrary to popular belief cursing doesn't necessarily mean you have a lack of vocabulary. More often than not, it simply means that your anger is clouding your ability to make a better selection at the moment. Have you ever wondered just who the Cuss Administration is any way? Just who gets to decide which expletive is acceptable, which is mildly objectionable and which is a ticket straight to Hell? I've never met them and I sure dont recall electing anyone. Nor do I feel the need for a Cuss Police Patrol. I mean, who hasn't heard the F bomb so many times by now that it no longer seems to have any meaning at all anyway? It's not even a actual bomb anymore - just a wilted little firecracker. I'm not saying everyone should go out there and cuss up a storm. But, words are just words. At the very least they help sort out who you want to spend time around and who you may want to avoid. I've heard swearing all my life. I find it pretty easy to ignore for the most part.

People who cuss are like school at 3 AM-no class. Shows a total lack of vocabulary and intelligence.

I personally don't like bad language. If you are not intelligent to come up with different words and insist on using the same rude, vulgar words over and over again you are so not worth my time and having a conversation with you is completely useless. All you show when you cuss is that your education, upbringing and manners are no better than that of a drunken sailor in a bar.

It depends on what public place you're in. If you curse out at church, that's a lack of class. But if you do it at a nudity bar or @ a football game, it isn't classless.

Some things are worth cursing about. Americans who claim to be 'offended' by language are a complete mystery to me. Pick a real battle that matters. And don't give me any crap about your kids- they can't write or speak anyway, ask any professor who deals with college freshmen.

While we should always try to curb swearing, it is part of our lanquage. Doing it loud enough for all to hear...I agree, you have no class. Especially if you are around Children.

What, you mean this dosen't make you a big man?

Although it is not the worst thing, it is still very bad and it offends God. I hate swearing because it sounds so aggressive and hateful. I've known people that I've really liked who sware. But if I didn't know them, I would automatically become suspicious of them. Cursing makes someone sound like some violent criminal who is full of anger. People sware because they either don't know how to express themselves, yet they want to sound authoritative. Or they want to be respected or they want to appear tough and cool because inwardly, they are insecure. Or they have been taught to talk like that by their parents. Or because they are angry, bitter people inside. They curse because it is a manifestation of their inner anger. They are angry probably because they have been abused as children and are full of anger or they havent been disciplined at all so they want everything their own way. Swearing is also bad for young ears.

Most of the time the people that do things like this often are cursing about the most idiotic things. For example, they feel cheated because they didn't get to use that extra 10-cent coupon for toilet paper...
ClassicTVFan47 06/24/2004
Cursing in general shows a lack of class. It is almost too easy to simply think before speaking. If everyone simply considered the other person's feelings and thought before speaking--profanity would easily become a thing of the past!

While I agree to a certain extent, I think it's more of who's around you in public. Obviously you shouldn't curse around children, the elderly, your job or church...but there's certainly nothing wrong with adults cursing around other adults.

A total lack of class, and I admit to doing it when I was younger. It was a total lack of class on my part and something I regret. So many younger people make the same mistake now and feel it makes them appear older or funny.

Shows a lack of class and vocabulary.
