If another driver feels free to flash their high beams in my rear view, or honk their horn repeatedly, because I've chosen to drive 25 miles an hour in a zone marked 25 miles an hour (yeah, I think 25 miles an hour is way too slow myself, but I wasn't consulted by the powers-that-be when that decision was made, and I really can't afford to get another ticket because I've decided to go 27 or 30 miles an hour instead...which has happened-- the cops in my area, having nothing better to do, are very quick to hand out speeding tickets for the slightest infraction), as a way of expressing their displeasure with me and my turtle-like pace, then I feel perfectly free to thrust my middle finger up in their direction, along with the requisite thrusting gesture, to express mine with them...and to let them know in the most emphatic way possible that they can kiss my ass. (Happened tonight, in fact; I resisted the middle finger because my birth mother was in the car with me, but I did slow the car down to 22 or 23 miles an hour...as a way of letting them know that they could still kiss my ass.)

I grew up in Boston and can distinctly remember flipping the bird to someone on the expressway from inside my mother's stomach a good seven months before I was born.

Guilty as charged. In my defense I submit the mitigating factor of Mickdom.

Like something like this is actually going to resolve anything. The only thing that it might cause is a case of road rage.

A fine tradition.

I think this really depends on where you live and the situation. A lot of people in California deserve to have their cars taken away, so a gesture is a common thing. I've lived all over the US and have witnessed (others and myself) give many gestures. It's the idiots who 'act' on a gesture that are problems, otherwise who cares. Quick bit of advise to the folks who 'drive slower' just to frustrate the other driver a little more. Might want to rethink that one, just imagine if that person has an emergency or lacks rational thought....bang! Isn't it better to just move over rather than 'win' in a petty situation?

It's not classless if he/she makes obscene gestures at me first. I do this only to get back at someone.

Very rude and lacking of class. What angers me more are those people who honk just because their late or their impatient. I understand using the horn when you have a truly slow driver infront of you but if you honk me at all, I'll instantly go even slower. As far as making obscene gestures...grow up a little will you?

This is not only very rude, it is also very dangerous and damaging. How does anyone think this lovely, pregnant woman, or the old Sunday school teacher (someone who is sweet and vulnerable) is going to think when they see this young, male who to her, she probably thinks it is a thug, sticking his finger up at her? I think she would be afraid. It is like someone swearing at you. It can make you think that someone out there doesn't like you and may one day commit a crime against you. It is also dangerous because that's how so many road rage incidents happen. Someone sticks their finger up at the wrong person, then they end up getting into a big fight (punch up) and someone gets seriously hurt and both people end up in trouble with the law.

Don't like it either but admit I am guilty of it at some point. Let's just face, there are some moments when the person just deserves it. Sometimes I deserve it when I get it from someone else! :-)

They need to grow up, but probably never will.

Be particular about the drivers you grace with your imaginative gestures. If you give the bird to a daffy New Age type, he or she may think you're practicing a new Tai Chi move. Cro-Magnon types might not be so tolerant, and you could very well end up as roadkill.

Obscene gestures in general are useless and are completely lacking in class. No thank you!

Simply this...a sign of immaturity
