 | LadyJesusFan777 (33) 07/24/2008 | There are many different ways to prepare potatoes, and the only way they become fattening is when the portions are unreasonable, like with anything.

 | Lena (10) 07/21/2008 | I could probably go a long time without eating potatoes. I never cook anything with them myself, for the most part because they take forever and you have to buy so many at once. I like them in indian food.

 | RenerWeiner (1) 12/03/2007 | These are very versatile. I never used to like them, but they grew on me. I remember those days in grade school though...the school lunch one's...yuck! & I'll pass on instant ones. A little on the fattening side though...

 | minkey (36) 02/23/2006 | Anyone who doesn't know the scoop on the potato by now should consider going back to school. Sure, mashed potatoes, fries and chips taste great, but it's all empty carbs. You're getting nothing from the potato bro. Might as well have a side of chocolate cake with that cheeseburger.

 | zuchinibut (36) 01/31/2006 | Potatos are very versatile and can be quite enjoyable, but most of the time they don't do a whole lot for me. I would rather have many other fresh fruit and vegetables than eat potato.

 | texasyankee (21) 04/19/2005 | I have to admit there is no wrong way to eat a potato... except raw... but I tend to stay away from them because every way I like is extremely fattening and bad for me!

 | Randyman (103) 02/11/2005 | Baked, Fried, boiled , mashed or Au Gratin. Doesn't matter, the potato is one of the best food God put on this green Earth. America is a meat and potato country and the potato has earned it's place in American Cuisine. Native to the Americas too.

 | Poison Tongue (0) 02/24/2004 | I guess I'm going to be forever branded odd for this but I don't particularly like them. I'd rather eat cheetoes than chips, I'll choose a soup or a salad over them, no matter how they are prepared, as a side dish ( yes that includes french fries) and I won't eat them on their own or baked etc. I'll even go so far as to pick them out of whatever I'm eating or eat around them when I have to be polite if they've been included in a recipe. I just don't like them. I will say one thing though the skins aren't bad so thet get a 2.

 | snlgirl (0) 06/23/2003 | Most vegetables are not especially great, but potatos are so versatile. They're good on their own, but they can also be made in to french fries and home fries, which are so delicious. Also, being Irish, I must respect the potato, which was Ireland's main crop before it all went bad.

 | Redoedo (39) 05/01/2003 | Where would our society be without this glorious vegetable? I know that I'd die without it. There's just so many things to do with a potato- you can make french fries, fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, potato soup, etc. I love eating mashed potatoes or baked potatoes with a good steak. This is the supreme vegetable of the land.

 | kamylienne (77) 04/03/2003 | I can't think of a single way that I DON'T like 'em! I definately love twice-baked potatoes, those are great . . . . and, of course, Au Gratin is cool . . . . (Yeah, I know it's pretty lame rating potatoes, but I'm bored, and I happen to have a craving for a baked potato right now.)

 | KikiD (0) 01/30/2003 | There are 38 million Americans of Irish descent, myself included. The potato -- or lack thereof -- put them here. Since the Irish built America, looks like we owe a lot to the spud.

 | gmanod (3) 12/27/2002 | This vegetable started to die off and we almost lost the Irish. Think about how necessary potato's are when viewed in that perspective. They are the most versatile vegetable and, generally, good no matter what. A Helpful Hint: When picking out potato's look foor green marks or patches; it may just appear to be a brown mark, but scratch the surface away with your nail, if it is green don't buy it. It turns green because the potato was exposed to too much sun light or UV lights. This makes it begin clorophyll production; the green patches can make what ever you use the potato for a little bit bitter. I worked in a produce department for a couple years.

 | lukskywlkr. (3) 12/05/2002 | Of course, the most unhealthy way to have potatoes (fried) just happens to be my favorite. They are great baked (smothered with butter), but they are not as good boiled. This pretty much ruins the great flavor of them unless you add enough salt and butter. Hash browns are excellent too.

 | abichara (60) 11/28/2001 | The mighty potato is the best vegetable out there because of the simple fact that you can do anything with it. My personal favorite is hashbrown casserole topped with cheddar cheese. French fries are really good if they're made with olive oil instead of the regular frying oil; they do that a lot in Europe. Baked potatoes are good only if they are loaded to the brim with sour cream, broccoli, cheese and bacon; otherwise, potatoes can be very bland. South American potatoes are the best because there is more genetic variation among the potatoes. No one potatoe (an ode to Dan Quayle) tastes the same there; there is a huge variety which you just won't find in the States.

 | Lord of the Waves (0) 10/20/2001 | Only the irish appreciate the worth of this fine culinary specimen. Huge famines have been casued by this delectible treat. Songs have been written in recognition of this noble creation. I say we give this incredible vegetable a standing ovation.

 | raincat (0) 10/11/2001 | Potatoes deserve a five-star rating for their versatility and relatively low cost. They are nutritious and filling and a great boon to the food budget. Plus even the pickiest eater loves at least one potato dish. You could serve potatoes every night for dinner and never be bored: Maybe scalloped for Sunday dinner, mashed for Monday, potato salad for Tuesday, stuffed with cheese and broccoli for Wednesday, boiled for Thursday, french fries for Friday, and baked for Saturday. -Not that you'd want them every night, but its nice to know if you had to, you could. It's also interesting that of all the ways to eat potatoes, they really aren't very good raw because of their grainy watery texture, that disappears after cooking.

 | Snoopy (3) 10/03/2001 | DEefinitely can be used in a variety of recipes. Baked potato with melted cheddar cheese and sour cream is one of my favorites. I love swwet potatoes too.

 | Molfan (57) 10/03/2001 | my favorite vegetable. there are many ways potatoes can be cooked. Baked you can put all kinds of other foods on it and make a whole meal out of it. My children love the less nutritious frenchfry. I think the potato is a very versatile vegetable.

 | CastleBee (81) 10/02/2001 | If I thought about it long enough, I could write a poem about my true love of this vegetable! I honestly like them any way but rotten or raw. And there really are about a million ways to enjoy them; baked, mashed, fried, roasted, sliced, diced, shredded, scalloped, chips, hash browns, potato soup, potato pancakes, potato bread and on and on. When I am really hungry, no other food satisfies my appetite quite as well as a simple baked potato!

 | Janey_Lane (0) 10/02/2001 | When I was a kid I used to hate potatoes, or perhaps that's because all I ever got were boild potatoes. Over and over and over... It wasn't until I got older that I realized that you don't have to boil them. You can bake them, roast them, mash them and eat chips and french fries. They're great with Hollainde sauce or Horse-radish sauce. With just some butter on top. One of my favorites would have to be cold boild potatoes with sour cream and dill.
