it seems mr. woodward has made a career out of tormenting the occupant of the oval office.

Of the .1% of people who will read this book, 99% will be Democrats. It won't hurt him much.

I think the existence of the book and its interpretation by a hostile press (anti-Bush) make it a factor in the election. Not many Americans will read it, I can't tell you how many liberals bash Bush with a conveniently partial list of its contents. Undecideds hear the bashing and think that those points are what the book is about. Woodward enjoys enormous literary and political respect, making the slant credible to too many.

This will be marginally more effective than Richard Clarke's Against All Enemies only because Woodward has written things interpreted as being in praise of Bush in the past. However, this work will not be read by many hardcore conservatives. My brother gave this to my dad for Father's Day and as my dad unwrapped it, my brother apologized and said, I'm sorry, Dad. I wouldn't have bought this if I had known it was anti-Bush. Yet by most accounts, this is a balanced look at the Bush administration's handling of the war in Iraq. Some people only seek confirmation of the views they already hold.

Woodward has as good a chance as any at bringing down Bush with anonomous sources and detailed jounalism.

This, along with the other book release listed in this list, probably won't make a dent in the public opinion of Bush. Even if more Americans read books that they weren't forced to (sadly, it seems to be a chore for most), most Americans are simply not that interested in the topic to go buy the book. The credibility of the author doesn't even need to be a factor: I doubt few people would read the book, anyway. UPDATE for the hopelessly unintelligent folk who don't get it: It really doesn't matter what your political beliefs are. IF PEOPLE DON'T READ THE BOOK, IT'S NOT GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The smaller its audience, the smaller its influence, regardless of the content or what you think of it. This isn't a book review.

Enough with all the anit bush BS. Did you know that before Bob Woodard went on 60 minutes the editors listened to tape recordings of the president saying what was quoted in Bob's book as well as others as quoted in his book? He also had dates and times Another good one was how the Prince of Saudi Arabia had his hand on the plans for the US starting the war before it happened which was a classified document. Also I am wondering why after 9/11 no planes flew in North America except for a Plane with the Bin Laden family, the Royal Saudi family, and also Air Force one. Could 911 be a planned reason to go to war? So this in deed is the truth.

Despite the fact that he's just preaching to the choir, this having an effect on the election is based on the assumption that most Americans read books, which isn't true.

Bob Woodward is widely respected as one of the more unpartisan journalists out there. Says the Economist Magazine, Mr. Woodward has taken on an extraordinary role, a mixture of instant historian and father confessor.... But perhaps the most remarkable thing is that he has made the role unpartisan, having achieved similar access to Bill Clinton's senior team when he write 'The Agenda' in 1994. The reason this book won't have too much of a negative reaction on GWB, is because, for the most part, it portrays GWB in a positive light. The only even slightly controversial point it makes regarding GWB is that the plans for an Iraq invasion were in place immediately following 9/11. As Woodward points out, it's one thing to plan, quite another to decide to invade. Why shouldn't the President be prepared for different scenarios? The guy who comes off as somewhat of a psychopath in this book is Cheney - determined to draw conclusions without evidence. Yet another reason for Bush to dump that guy.

It's pretty well established that Bob Woodward is no fan of Republicans in general. I question the credibility and objectiveness of his book.
