Launch efforts to rally Muslim support for the U.S. 4

This is tough question, it is hard to place an indicator on this action. It would be great if the people were actually able to set up a Government, which they badly need. But, unfortunately there are still extremist, who will die for the sake of their country and to show the resistance that still exists, how serious it is in it's efforts to stop a Government from forming. We have lost many brave men and women never mind the vets that are coming back wounded, and in hospitals.

I think kwhyman has a point and I think i shud address this to everyone who has written here. most muslims arent the gun-toting type. Same with most people...!!! I don think everyone realizes that (read all the other coments below) And for the christians who say muslims do not like their support, This is wut quran says, ...and nearest among them in love to the believers will you find those who say, 'We are Christians,' because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant (5:82).

To the person with the all-numeric nick, please thate the hatespeach elsewhere. To everyone else. It is better to make friends then enemies in most cases, unless they're already shooting at you, and most muslims aren't the gun-toting type. Same with most people. Only takes a few bad eggs doing stupidity in the name of whatever to sully the good name of most everyone else in the same group, religion, or ideological mindset.

Wheresoever you find Muslims, you will find terrorists and terrorist-sympathizers. This is fact. Islam either needs to reform itself or go away and leave the world alone!

This is a good idea. If we find out what irks the muslims (other than us) and set out to fix the problem (s) they might finally take the hint we have no quarrel with the innocent. Maybe then we could get them to fight for us, which would be more effective. If afghans and iraquis see their own kin on the opposite side of the battleield, then maybe that will get through to them wha5 are motives truly are. I mean, if i was leader of a squad of troops, and suddenly found that my men had turned on me, i would take the time to sit down and find out why they had. Wouldn't you?

It is vital that the United States make clear to the Muslim world that it is not our intention to destroy the Islamic religion. We are merely trying to bring terrorists who happen to be Muslim to justice.

I wouldn't bother. 90% of then hate us anyways, they always will. Do we need help from the enemy to eliminate the enemy? Actually, the Christian/Muslim war started around the year 1000, when the Pope started the crusades.

We don't need the support of these Muslim bastards! Deport all of them and shoot on site any who try to leave their countrys. That is the solution. If they hate Americans and Brits so much, then they can get out and stay out!

i can see what abichara1882 is saying, however, the fact that we are "allies" of Saudi Arabia is part of the reason why the TAliban does not like us

How long does the U.S. have to care for all of the people in this world?? Our country gives & gives just 2 B spit on most of the time. The Muslims & other races born here or that have become citizens care about our country. Most other countrys where these Muslims & others R born & raised R brain washed from the time they R about 5 yrs. old 2 HATE all americans. I almost cryed watching a boy of 6 yrs. old give a speech & all it was is how much they hate AMERICANS! Of course only the boys R allowed N the school the girls R N a room learning & reading their bible. So good luck with all these efforts 4 their support. Saw the speech on CNN {19th} N case U saw it or it replays. PEACE &HEALTH, SHORTS

How could this NOT be imperative? With the vast majority of Arabs and Muslims viewing us in a rather unfavorable light, methinks it would be highly prudent to win this global "battle" for empathy, especially when one considers that our country is undisputably biased towards Israel. The Saudi prince who handed the rescue effort a $10,000,000 check and then criticized the U.S. Mid-East foreign policy was certainly within his right to do so, as much as our nation may have found such comments infuriating. Rudy's grandstanding and refusal to accept the money was cutting off the proverbial nose to spite the face. At this time of trial, I don't feel our nation is in a position to determine who is "worthy" of helping us and who isn't. Such arrogance on our part!

This is a good idea. However, it may backfire, causing the Muslims to think that we are trying to take them away from their religion.

Well, since we've already shown Muslims how hateful we can be, I don't think rallying for support will do much to change some of their minds. But we need some support. Just make sure you don't go flying around to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and Qatar grabbing random teenagers off the streets to fight for us. Then, the Muslim countries who do support us would just regard the US as a nuisance. That would be stupid. We should be mild about this. Take care, everyone.

I don't get it. If they bombed us, why would they suddenly turn around and support us? I think what this topic is supposed to mean is that the attacks are mainly b*n L***n's fault and that the REST of the Muslims would want to help us, but even so, expecting them to support us so soon after the initial attack? What if, on January 6th, 1942, Stalin suddenly asked HITLER to support Russia, England and the US?!

From all reports, the people of Afghanistan have been victims of this monster and his goons for years. Hopefully, at least this group of Muslims would like to escape his hold on them and might be willing to consider supporting our efforts. But, I'm not sure how much support we would get from other parts of the Muslim world even IF all the facts were known. Due to years of bias against the U.S. - and since we make such a nice big dumping ground for the ailments of the world regardless of years of humanitarian aid and support to nearly anyone who asks - I feel skeptical that our case would be completely understood or even listened to. It's kind of like the problem of bigotry that we've been battling at home for the past 200+ years. I feel fairly certain that you could sit and talk about the stupidity of intolerance to one of our homegrown racists - and we have them in a variety of colors and from many backgrounds and belief systems - for days at a time and, regardless of the amount of logic involved, many would still not change their deeply ingrained biases. Certain kinds of ignorance/propaganda have been going on so long it's practically part of their genetic makeup. It would still be worth a try to present a case for understanding and hope against hope it would make an internal difference.

Hmm... if the reasonable Muslims understood that we Americans feel for them and their strict lifestyles, perhaps they'd support us. But how would they support us? How will they get out of their country? Would they be killed? This may call for more violence, although if we find a good way to get their support, it's absolutely worth it. But what a tough sich-ee-ation!

I do not think getting Muslims to support our cause will not be too difficult at all. There is already plenty of support for the United States in countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait as a result of our actions to defend their countries against Saddam Hussein in the Gulf War. The problem is that most Muslims perceive us as not caring about their people of their faith, that we are biased towards the Jews in the peace process. If we did not care about people of the Muslim faith, we would not have dedicated U.S. troops and logistics to go into the province of Kosovo in the former Yugoslavia to stop the systematic ethnic cleasing of the minority Muslims by the majority Christians. We do support the Muslim world with humanitarian aid to countries like Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The issue is with fundamentalist governments who view technological advancement with disdain. Fundamentalist Islam teaches that advanced technology is evil and decadent. Since the United States is the most advanced country in the world; logically, we are the targets of their "jihad" or holy war. This very small minority of Muslims will stop at nothing to get rid of our influence throughout the Middle East. Some may Again, this is fundamentalist Islam and it does NOT represent what the majority of Muslims think in the Arab world. We have lots of friends in the Arab world, but plenty of enemies as well, and as we have seen since September 11th, 2001, they are willing to carry out their evil deeds at will.

The success of our response to the 9/11 attacks should not be measured solely by how many airports we blow up, how many terrorist camps we destroy, or even how many terrorist networks we disable. In my opinion, the real risk of this engagement is locking ourselves into an Israel / Palestine type conflict indefinitely with the entire Muslim world. Can't you just imagine the history books? "Although it's roots can be traced earlier, the Great Islamic / Christian War began officially with The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Spanning 5 continents, the Great War lasted 90 years and resulted in the deaths of......" You get the point. Military action can go a long way towards sending a message to terrorists that we are not to be messed with - HOWEVER, achieving true success in this campaign - limiting terrorism without enraging the Muslim world - can only be done DESPITE military action, not through military action. That is why IMHO, the real war needs to be fought with words and information. We need to launch a massive PR campaign to educate the Muslim World that 1) Millions of Americans are Muslim, 2) We will treat attacks on American Muslims (or Sikhs) by other Americans as terrorist actions that threaten our national security, 3) That we provide XXXX$ in aid to Muslim countries each year, 4) that we are providing the citizens of Afghanistan with aid, food, support, even as we move to remove those who enabled the attack on the US, 5) that we are a friend to Islam, 6) etc, etc. And we need to hammer these messages home, using the Web, pamphlets, radio, diplomacy, exchange programs, customized Peace Corps type programs - whatever it takes. This should be a war of information / education, supported by selected military actions that address terrorists, not vice versa. I'n not the first to say this, but I think it is very relevant here - Bin Laden is counting on us to lash out blindly in response to 9/11, thus uniting the Muslim world against the US. By launching a war of information (in addition to the military strikes), we can limit this conflict to what it is - a large powerful country taking action against a relatively small group of vicious criminals.
