To do what? Pass resolution after resolution and do nothing about them. This organization has become useless, what do they do? I say we kick them out of New York and withdraw from this complete waste of time and resources.

The U.N. is toothless! Twice nothing is still nothing!

The UN is almost completely useless, which is a shame because it could be an organization which works to protect human rights, encourage peace and coordinate relief efforts with trustworthy oversight. Instead, it has made a mockery of the entire human rights issue, it condones arms proliferations and ethnic massacres and looks the other way when its own peacekeepers and relief workers rape the innocents and embezzle enormous amounts of money intended for desperate victims, sometimes funnelling money to the very people who have caused the disastrous condition, then covering their sordid tracks for them, in the name of humanitarian relief. When an organization funded by American tax dollars does one (just ONE!) of those things, we shut it down and fire and prosecute its leaders. The UN has been doing this for decades, regardless of who sits in the White House, and today, there is an uproar because a blunt but experienced diplomat, who acknowledges half of how corrupt and incompetent (not to mention wasteful) the UN is, has been propsed as US Ambassador to the UN. How many millions of US tax dollars have been wasted on this heinous organization, and yet the left in the US clamors to cut the defense budget. Not that there isn't enormous waste there, but peaceniks who support the UN have no credibility clamoring for fiscal responsiblity while every dollar contributed to the UN goes to waste like this.

To CastleBee: I'm afraid you are entirely wrong. The countries forming the coalition did so by ignoring their people's pleas not to go to war.We could see through Bush's little scam and now Blair is paying for his deception. So will Bush and Howard - as has Asnar. It is sad to think this disarray has occurred because some dimwit President had an agenda. It is because of the atrocities of WWII that we are trying to avoid making the same mistakes again. So, the UN is a place for other countries to at least exchange views, whether we like what they ahve to say or not. Ok, it isn't the best and maybe it should be replaced by a new Global body representing all humans (not governments) Why should only five members on the security council have a vote? Because the founders (which included the US) wanted it to be so. This is obviously unfair and needs to change...let's think about possibilities rather than acting like spoilt children.

The UN is a complete joke. The members of the United Nations are not united at all. Look at the US and France. Real cooperation going on us, huh? During previous conflicts and problems, nations have acted alone and with personal allies. I believe the US needs to do what it needs to protect herself, no matter what any other nation says. Who cares what France thinks about us? Let's just do what we need to do, using whatever means we need to do it. While we were trying to convince suspicious countries to join us in the war, Saddam was probably planning out his hole defense operation. Next time, let's not even waste our time with the United Nations.

Certainly we need to build a NATO coalition to fight terrorism, but I'm not exactly a big fan of the United Nations. It has the potential to be an effective organization, but it is poorly managed and implemented. Look at how many wars and holocausts have occured under the U.N.'s watch. An organization that claims to stand for human rights while at the same time placing Libya as the head of the Human Rights Commission should not be taken seriously and definitely should not be funded by American taxpayers.

Read all the way to the bottom of this email if you have one Drop of True American Blood Running in your veins !!!!!! I am sick and tired of people saying we can't win against terrorism. Well we can form a United Front and we can do something.... United ! ! !.....I beg you to send this to everyone YOU KNOW !!!!!! Just think, some of us cant go running around the world chasing terrorists But WE CAN DO THIS !!!!! Won't You join your Countrymen in the same way they stormed the beaches at Normandy ???? Its time to pick what side of the fence we are on and this is one way we can say ......We will win This ONE BATTLE on our HOMELAND for Sure !!!!! interesting... Subject: Are you supporting terrorism? Subject: Beat 'em at their own game... GASOLINE SOLUTION! We CAN buy gasoline that's not from Middle East. Why didn't George W. think of this? Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil: Those that do import: Shell.....205,742,000 barrels Chevron/Texaco.....144,332,000 barrels Exxon /Mobil.....130,082,000 barrels Marathon/Speedway......117,740,000 barrels Amoco.....62,231,000 barrels If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil: Citgo.....0 barrels Sunoco..... ..0 barrels Conoco..... ..0 barrels Sinclair..... 0 barrels BP/Phillips..... 0 barrels Hess.....0 barrels All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis. Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop paying for terrorism..... But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I'm sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. How much would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next eight days! Copy this into your email and spread the word !

What a silly idea. You cannot force someone to do something at the behest of bellyachin' and threatening revenge against every wild-eyed crazy who threatens to substitute anthrax for Nutrasweet in your coffee. The UN exists to thrash out arguments and try to create and foment dialogue between opposing viewpoints. Now, more than ever, is when we need organizations such as the UN!

The terrorist attack in 9/11 was aganist all of the humans and nations,so the "united nations"have to stand aganist it.Other ways that involves only one (or two)countries-although as powerfull as USA-will not be successfull .

Oh, how completely pathetic. Can't you come up with anything better than "Mr. Bush's War"? I gave you more credit Freak. This is a war on terrorism…incase your mind has been wandering Bush did not initiate it. And as to the reference to teenagers fighting for foreign interests - well that's certainly been done before. Or haven't you gotten to the part about WWII in your history books? I have no trouble recalling this fact because my father was one of those teenagers. It's a good thing his generation was wise enough and self-sacrificing enough that they were able to see the dangers and injustices inflicted on others as well as our own country during those crucial years. Our young people along with countless others all over the globe are the main reason the world as we know it still exists and you are not goose-stepping your way to school. Countries like Britain, Canada and most of the civilized world have realized something many of you pacifistic ostriches have not - this is a war we are all compelled to fight IF WE WANT TO SURVIVE. Per usual, I agree with abrichara1882; we should deal with the UN carefully and cautiously because - as we have found in the past - when the air clears, not everyone involved will be interested in playing by the original rules.

I am against anything that involves us deliberately using other countries. We can win Mr. Bushes war alone (I will call it Mr. Bushes war until we think of an official name, because I want no part of this war.). The UN is not obligated to help us. This is not my war, Dubya, and this is definitely not THEIR war! I seriously doubt that the British and Canadian teenagers we might end up deciding to use will think it is an honor to fight for some country across the ocean/border. Do we really want to wipe Afghanistan completely off the face of the earth? If that is what we do, I will never forgive the US. Oh, and another thing---the UN is not obligated to SUPPORT us either! They are not obligated to use foreign time and money to help us win a war that we can easily win by ourselves! To all you British, Canadian, and other foreign people on Rateitall: do not worry about us, we can handle it. You just go on with your lives. If it were some world power like China, then I would be in favor of this. But this is Afghanistan we are talking about. At least America is still intact. Afghanistan is falling apart. Think about what I have said, and take care, everyone!

I am not exactly the biggest supporter of the U.N. The United States should use it when it suits our best interests. Basically, the United Nations is a place where countries vent their frustrations out. We should never get too involved in it; we certainly should never allow U.S. troops to serve under a U.N. commander. To give the United Nations real power would put the United States in a very compromising position. Dictatorships and governments we do not agree with may use the United States to suit what is in THEIR best interest, and that may not be OUR best interest. The United Nations is much like a legislature. Charles de Gaulle, former president of France, once said this about legislatures; "Legislatures can paralyze policy but they cannot initiate it." The United Nations has no real power. It glorifies collective security which is a complete farce. Nations ALWAYS act in their national interest. Take for instance the Gulf War and the alliance that was formed as a result of that military action. Our Western European allies entered it because of the threat Saddam posed to petroleum markets. The Soviets joined to show the United States that they were our friends and at the same time, they joined the coalition to broker a peace agreement after the war so the Soviet Union could retain their trade ties with Iraq. Arab states like Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt joined the coalition to ensure that Saddam Hussein's Iraq would not become the predominent power in the Middle East. All of these nations had one goal in mind: neutralize Saddam Hussein. Their reasons for it were different though, and that is why collective security does not work in the long run. Nations interests will ultimately change, countries ally with those whose interests are similar and they break the alliances when geopolitical balances change. It is a fact of life. Sometimes, interests collide and the result is war. The goal is to use to the United Nations as a diplomatic channel, but not much else. It is merely a symbolic force; it does not frighten anyone and it certainly does not have any real power. We should use the United Nations as a show of world solidarity, specifically with this new war on terrorism. Using the United Nations for anything beyond symbolism may prove futile.
