This is one of the better horror films ever made. Lon Chaney is bitten by a werewolf played by Bela Lugosi. He carries the curse and then during the full moon, oh you know what. Claude Rains plays Chaney's father, and a great part is played by Maria Ouspenskaya who plays the old gypsy who fortells Chaney's fate and attempts to care for him.I can't explain in this brief space how well done is this flick. Even the special effects and make-up are first rate for the date of the movie, 1941. You can sympathesize with the wolf man and really feel sorry for him, in fact. Don't miss this if you have a chance to see it! I found a copy in a video store in Jan. 2009, and I was ecstatic!

A very well made film from the era. Even the special effects (stop-motion and makeup) are well done for early '40's. Not quite as good as the Frankenstein movie of that vintage, it is still quite entertaining.

It's a shame they don't make "horror" movies like this any more. The monster isn't a bad guy who is mega-evil and impossible to dispose of, he's a monster one can feel sympathy for. These movies from the 30's and 40's are great for watching on or near Halloween.

VERY tame compared to today's horror films, but very moody and atmospheric. This one is perfect for someone who likes intense movies, but doesn't really like to be scared.

I was fascinated by it when I was a kid, but it doesn't seem so great anymore. Chaney does a good acting job, it is very atmospheric, and the musical score is excellent. But the Wolf Man himself just doesn't come accross as threatening or scary enough anymore to be exciting.

Classic horror film that, along with such classics as FRANKENSTEIN, DRACULA and THE MUMMY, put Universal on the map. Lon Chaney Jr. gives a good performance as the tormented Larry Talbot, as well as the ravenous werewolf, a character that has been branded onto our culture for all time. The supporting cast of Rains, Ankers, Bellamy, Lugosi and Ospenskaya receive a notable nod as well.
