"It's...it's not fair. There was time now..." Poor poor Henry Bemis, I always wondered what he did next

A true classic: the ironic twist ending is almost unbearable...

Who doesn't love Burgess Meredith?

Probably the best known episode and with reason. A standout of the series, and that's really saying something

As a near-sighted bibliophile, this episode hits a little too close to home for me to really feel comfortable with it. Very well done, and Meredith is, as usual, excellent, but I don't take a shivery pleasure in watching and re-watching this as I normally do with Twilight Zone episodes.

One of my favorite classic episodes. Great ending and the one I always picture when I hear or think about the Twilight Zone theme.

A great episode topped off with an ironic ending. Burgess Meredith did quality work - the type of which is simply absent from modern episodical television.

Hilarious! Wait that's not funny! Now I feel like a bad person, but oh well it kinda is ,but I really think that it is tragic that all that time he won't be able to do his well deserved reading. I think that he could just go to an eye glasses store and take many pairs of perscription eye glasses.

One of the best episodes. How tragic for Burgess Meredith. Great, classic Twilight Zone.

Burgess Meredith is his usual awesome self.

One of my favorite episodes. Mild mannered Henry Bemis biggest love in life is reading.he would love nothing more than to settle down with a good book and read. Sadly for him no one is patient or nice about his love for reading. His wife is a total witch and even destroys a book he is reading. He works at a bank and one day he stoles away in the vault to catch up on his reading. we hear a loud blast when he comes out of the vault he learns there was a nuclear attack and everyone is dead. he is the only one left. At first this is devastating and he thinks of suicide, until he comes upon a destroyed library. he happily gathers up all the books he has been longing to read.Just as he is leaning over to pick up a book his glasses slip off his face and break into many pieces. He has extremely poor eyesight and the only way he could have read is those glasses. Talk about rotten luck I still feel for this poor sweet man who only wanted to read. How unfair. Very well played by Burgess Meredith. Hope I did not make this a spoiler.

A simple little story, simply told, full of wry delight. Burgess Meredith has a leash on for his performance, instead of his usual over the top theatrics, and suits the role well.

It's not my favorite, but the oft-aired scene where Burgess Meredith breaks his glasses is the epitome of all that is good about Twilight Zone. I guess a modern day version would have a dude and a 100 Maxim models survive some calmity only to have his junk torn off by a pit bull or something.

One of the truly classic episodes. The twists are worthy of O.Henry. (Thanks to Molfan for reminding which one this was!)
