This was one of the really good P.I. shows from 60's and early 70's. James Garner was Jim Rockford and Noah Beery Jr. played his dad, Rocky. What made Rockford different than other shows was the way that Garner play him. Rockford could take care of himself but he was hardly a great fighter, and he would occasionaly take a good beating. He wasn't rich and did not have a plush office, infact, his home/office was a trailer parked at a parking lot at the beach. He had great detective skills and his father/side kick usually got the lowdown and info that he needed to solve a case. It was a formula that was later repeated (successfully) with Magnum PI.

I liked this. Well written, with a solid supporting cast, and a main character who was far more believable and likeable than the usual TV gumshoe.
