Well despite a couple of things that I don't quite get (Just how did the salesady know Marsha would be looking for a gold thimble?), this is a classic, five-star episode with great performances by Elizabeth Allen and Anne Francis, who does a good job of portraying the shock and horror of what she goes through. I liked the conecept of what goes on in department stores after hours theme.

One of the most memorable of all the Zones. Not only creeped me out but made me look a manequins in a whole new light. My sister and I still laugh at the line, "Room for one more."

This was beautifully acted out and made me an early fan of Anne Francis. There were lots of fast camera zoom-ins. Very few episodes of the Twilight Zone are actually frightening but this one really was, and even when you've seen it several times before, it can still give you chills.

Perhaps the most frightening episode of the series, and I'm not even sure why...Are mannequins particularly scary? You wouldn't necessarily think so (I mean, I'm able to walk through the mall without getting the shakes), but this episode scared the hell out of me when I saw it as a kid, its haunted me for years, and, seeing it again just recently, its lost none of its intrinsic power. Is it something atavistic within human nature that motivates this fear? Some quality hidden within ourselves that we're unwilling to face that we project onto these motionless paper-mache creations? Am I intellectualizing pointlessly about something that can only be understood viscerally, emotionally? Dunno. But, as Irishgit puts it so succinctly in the comments below, this is one "unsettling" half-hour of television. I've said it before, but it bears repeating...if only they still created shows like this on TV (or anywhere, for that matter)...

A bizarre and frightening episode that I find unsettling every time I watch.
