Shatner's addiction to the machine makes for a very suspsenful episode that had me glued to the screen. Initially I was hoping the ending wouldn't be quite as confusing, but in retrospect, it's actually kind of clever that they didn't reveal whether it really could predict the future. It just lets you know that Shatner has moved on regardless of whether it can or cannot predict the future, and that's good enough for me. (since this is TZ we're talking about, I'm going to assume that it could predict the future.)

For the life of me, I can't understand why this one is rated so high by others. It seems like pretty thin material compared with many other episodes. But I'm glad for all of you who like it - even a little envious of you.

Again, this type of episode is what made the Twilight Zone great. A thoughtful little psychology-oriented tale that would never be made for today's audiences who seek vulgarity and overwhelming special effects. And Shatner was one of the many future stars who Serling was able to get before they made their names.

Great because of the moral of the story - you cant live your life based on superstition, addition and wanting to know your fate.

Very subtle script is not quite matched by the inability of William Shatner (in the lead role) to deliver on its promise.
