 | scarletfeather (45) 06/14/2008 | I love his voice, and his self-pitying songs amuse me. I've had a crush on him for a long time, but somehow I feel I'm wasting my time. Sigh.

 | Limpin' Trenchfoot (15) 03/26/2008 | One of a long line of self pitying bedsitting nerds who decided his purpose in life is to inflict his 6th form poetry on an unsuspecting public. I'm not sure quite why he has any public profile as his albums dont excatly sell by the truckload. Viz The Smiths, their finest moments are all down to Johnny Marr's guitar playing and Andy Rourke's basslines. I'm intrigued to know why peddlers of introspective self pity like Morrisey, Thom Yorke etc are so revered. Strange times we live in.

 | VirileVagabond (31) 08/04/2007 | Notwithstanding that I'm a big fan of the Smiths, this item is for Morrissey's solo career, and I'll admit that his material sans Johnny Marr simply doesn't measure up in comparison. He does have his moments (e.g. "Interesting Drug", "Everyday Is Like Sunday", "Suedehead", "Disappointed", and "The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get"; however, his individual full-length releases are very spotty in my opinion. The bottom line is that the best way to get Morrissey is a strong compilation dating after and including the latter single noted earlier, but I'm going with three stars overall.

 | Polina (1) 05/28/2007 | I'm giving him a five even though I am not a particular fan of most of his music. I am doing it because of his stance on things that matter, i.e. his Meat is Murder song. This is a person who has the courage of his convictions and long may he do so. I saw him interviewed on the Jonathan Ross show and can quite see why he has such a huge fan following. Whatever it is, he has got it! He has got that magic something that so many big-mouthed twerpy "stars" have not got and never will. It can't be copied.

 | kolby1973 (32) 11/13/2006 | Like many others on this website, I loved Morrissey when he was with the Smiths. This doesn't mean I don't like his solo music however. "Everyday Is Like Sunday" will always be one of my favorite songs. I do agree that Johnny Marr and Morrissey mesh very well together and it will always sadden me that the Smiths are no longer...

 | kingguiness (11) 07/10/2006 | His brilliance is much more recognized as a member of the Smiths but still a decent talent alone.

 | Gromit (2) 02/04/2006 | A brilliant, emotive vocalist who made rock history with one of the best bands ever, 'The Smiths'. The 80's was a GREAT era for alternative rock, with 'The Smiths' helping to pioneer the way. Morrissey is a consummate artist extraordinaire!!!

 | earthbound (37) 05/06/2005 | When Duran Duran were shooting music videos in Thailand and singing about a lady called Rio who dances in the sand, Morrissey was penning lines like I need advice, I need advice, nobody ever looks at me twice. And that spoke to pale teenagers who could not really picture dancing in the sand with anyone (more like getting sand kicked in their faces). This was straight from the anguished heart with no frills. The Smiths filled a gap left by vacuous pop music in the early eighties. And they had an enormous influence on indie music.

 | Teaseress (13) 04/02/2005 | I liked Morrissey when he was with The Smiths, working with Marr certainly helped him. But I think as a solo artist he's so very, very boring.

By the way who's Johnny Marr?

 | pablopeck (0) 02/28/2005 | Marr was the greatest, but Morrissey stole all those great lyrics! Such upbeat melodies and beat, such depressing lyrics. Solo or with the Smiths, it will never be repeated

 | Skizero (13) 02/10/2005 | a scattershot solo career interrupted by the inability to find a comprabale label to put him on. of course I write this admitting to never being much of a Smiths fan, but i appreciate them more than what Morrissey does, which tends to be Smiths-light, or a retread version of the group. The act is all right for folks that i suspect want more of the same. it just doesn't appeal to me w/o Johnny Marr.
