Concerning them being the first Alice Cooper ripoff, one of you is incorrect. Alice had been around for six years before KISS. Gene Simmons once said the idea for KISS was to have four Alice Cooper's. Anyway to get back on topic, KISS has some good songs but none of their albums are truly great. There are better shock rockers like the aforementioned Alice, WASP, Lizzy Borden, etc.

 | Limpin' Trenchfoot (16) 11/27/2007 | One of the great wonders of the modern world is Kiss' demonstration that musical talent, great memorable songs, instrumental virtuosity etc arent necessary to succeed in the world of rock. In fact in Kiss' case they might have been handicaps as they would've had less time to apply their make up and put on their stage outfits. 'Destroyer' almost mars their consistency in their ability to make uninspired albums chocka block with lame rockers and naff ballads as there are ...(hold your breath)...one or two reasonable songs here i.e.. Shout It Out loud'and Detroit Rock City that let the side down. Anyway, as their comic personas suggest this stuff is fine for spotty teens pleasuring themselves alone in their dank bedrooms but not recommended for adults and the clinically sane.

 | leftfinger (2) 06/30/2006 | Gotta admit it - even though I'm not a KISS fan, this one was good. Detroit Rock City, King of the Nighttime World, god of Thunder are just three solid tunes on this record.

 | chris012258 (3) 11/18/2005 | This is a great album. anyone who says differently I cannot begin to imagin what you think is so great. I agree that bands like Floyed and Zep were more talented musicially, But NOBODY,I MEAN NOBODY writes a better anthem than Kiss and this album proves it. "Detroit Rock City" and "Shout it Out Loud" are Classic hard rock from the 70's.
This album also displayed KISS' musical diversity, their first real Ballad became a huge hit in Peter Criss' "BETH"
Arguably Kiss' best studio effort and solid throughout, for that it gets 5 atars

 | Ash_Williams (0) 10/31/2005 | Alice cooper ripoff? They both started playing at the same freaking time! GoT and DRC only good songs? The super-acclaimed Beth and King of the nighttime world are on here. I LOVE Sweet Pain. KISS even says this is their best (studio) album. IT's not my favorite but it does kick ass.

 | Budc9512om (2) 07/04/2005 | Kiss has always been about image but limited musical talent. They have rarely put out an album that actually rocked from start to finish.

 | MileHiJP (0) 07/11/2001 | Kiss' signature album with their strongest material of their long career. The only Kiss album anyone needs to have. Detroit Rock City, God of Thunder (Gene Simmons' signature piece in my opinion) and the great ballad Beth made for some great hits.
