The 1989-90 San Francisco 49ers are definitely one of the greatest professional football teams ever. Led by Joe Montana, this team featured other great players such as Jerry Rice, Jim Burt, Bill Romanowski, Brent Jones, Tom Rathmann, Roger Craig, Charles Haley, Ken Norton Jr., and the venerable Ronie Lott. And through the playoffs, NO TEAM IN HISTORY was hotter in a span of three games, as the 49ers decimated the Vikings and the Rams before annihilating the gritty-but-hapless Denver Broncos in Superbowl XXIV. But how would have this team handled the defenses of both the Pittsburg Steelers of 1978 or the 1985 Chicago Bears? Certainly, both these teams had better defenses, but the 49ers had a defense which brought havoc throughout the NFL. And when comparing the greatest offenses, there is no comparison. The 1989 49ers are widely considered the greatest offense ever. But the debate will certainly go on as to which team was the greatest ever. Perhaps the only thing most can agree on is that these teams (1972 Dolphins, 1989 49ers, 1985 Bears, 1978 Steelers, 1962 Packers) deserve to be mentioned as amongst the very best.

Would have destroyed anyone. 14-2 record. Scored a still record 55 points in superbowl 24.
