If rating a team all-time by how dominant they were by their offense or defense, the 1972 Miami Dolphins do not belong in the top five of any category. But if a team can be measured by how it played as a 'team', these Dolphins definitely outshine the 1985 Bears, 1989 49ers, the 1978 Steelers, and the 1962 Packers. Coached by the great Don Shula, the 1972 Dolphins remain the only undefeated team in the annals of professional football. No team was ever dominant in that aspect of being a 'team'. And most of these players and coaches who were part of this awesome bunch went on to greater personal success post-football career.

The only NFL team to go undefeated and the only team to lead league in yards gained and scoring, as well as fewest yards allowed and scoring defense. Also has the best two year record in NFL history. Looking back, I notice that this was a very well-balanced and deep team with no weaknesses. They could lose their first-string quarterback and still win. Their fullback and halfback, Csonka and Morris, were the best Mr Inside-Mr Outside pair ever. A defense that bent but would not break. Just a great team.
