I don't go near it except when relatives visit and want to see Alcatraz or something. Everything is always crowded and overpriced. Ghiradeli's has some character, but still not worth the hassle. And real fishermen haven't set foot on the "warfs" in decades.

Mainly a tourist trap. It's a bit colder than the rest of the city. You'd go to the Wharf for Peir 39, Alacatraz tours, nice views of the Golden Gate Bridge. You'd avoid it if you dislike tourist traps and what comes with them - cheap, cheesy shops and street vendors, ridiculous restaurants and bars (by and large), and crowds.

Great...if you like cheesy tourist traps, touts harassing you, clueless tourists stumbling everywhere and over the top commercialism.

A lame tourist trap. Nothing else.

Should see a new, unique, reasonable priced store on Jefferson Street called "Golden Voyage", I am impressed by their service, quality of merchandise and their pricing. I just found a treasure trove !

I detest tourist areas like Fisherman's Wharf. They're dehumanizing cultureless wastelands full of zoned out tourons trying to find packaged fun and desperately failing. That said, Fisherman's Wharf has two wonderful, almost unbelievable features that make it a special place -- and they stand out all the more, given their ugly surroundings. First are the sea lions at pier 39. Something like five or six hundred massive sea lions simply took over a bunch of dock slips a few years ago, and there they still sit, making a horrible ruckus, fighting, yelling, and casting a rather pungent fishy stink over the whole place. I love them. Second is In-N-Out Burger, the best fast food establishment in the world. Order a Double-Double (ask for it "animal style" and you'll get sauteed onions and a toasted bun), get it to go, then walk across the street and down one of the alleys, and you can eat your meal on the docks, away from the soul-crushing banality of the tourist kitsch, amongst the workboats, watching cormorants and egrets picking fish bits out of the boat's nets. It's an amazing contrast.

WAY too touristy, overpriced and overcrowded.

I think my rating for Fisherman's Wharf would be higher if I didn't live in San Francisco. Clearly there is a lot of fun tourist stuff to do, and it's not a bad place to check out if you are visiting the city for the first time. That being said, as a resident of SF, Fisherman's Wharf is one of my least favorite parts of the city. The traffic is awful, the restaurants are overpriced, and everything is gawdier than the rest of this beautiful city. With so many different flavors to the city - almost from block to block - I find Fisherman's Wharf to be pretty bland. It is there to cater to tourists, and I guess that's exactly what it does.

Such a wonderful place! Things for kids to do and this is really unlike any place in California. It is not only full of culture, it is just a blast to explore for all ages.
