 | ugtr (7) 06/22/2007 | Every reviewer on RIA has the opportunity to earn money using Google Adsense. Why not give us the option to allocate a percentage of our earnings to a charity of our choosing? This would allow those people interested in charitable giving an easy, automatic option to do so. It would also take out any dishonesty factor related to giving "good" reviews as the donation would be based on ad revenue, not review content. I see a few benefits. First and foremost, the community would benefit by having reviewers who can achieve their charitable goals without being compelled to leave a dishonest opinion. Honest opinions are what makes RIA different from other sites. Secondly, if RIA listed what percent of ad revenue was allocated to charity on any given page, people may find themselves more likely to click an ad. This benefits RIA, the user who gets a percentage of the money generated from the click, and the charity. Who knows, the charitable giving aspect may just draw more people into the community.

 | twinmom101 (33) 05/15/2003 | I don't need a carrot dangling over my head when I'm stating what's on my mind. Epinions does this but I've never got any money for my reviews there and I don't care if I never do.

 | kamylienne (84) 05/09/2003 | It'd be great to earn money for non-profit organizations, but I don't think that will help the integrity of the ratings left here. And, besides, what conditions are to be met for a "good" review? Quality? How many stars the thing was rated?

 | BIGBABY (11) 03/16/2003 | Sure, I think everyone would immediately change thier comments to a five star rating without any thought at all. There is no way this should be addded. Who suggested this?

 | EricTKO (0) 12/15/2002 | Does the word BRIBE come to mind. I will leave honest feelings and expect honesty from others. If you want to pay individuals to give just good reviews and not the truth remove me from this site.

 | Snoopy (5) 03/21/2002 | While I really wouldn't mind earning money, I personally see this site as a nice community to share ideas, not as a place to make a quick buck.

 | MedgarEvers (15) 10/26/2001 | All RateItAll users have enough money to own a computer I should think, so if we wanted to donate to charity there are other ways to do so than leave "good" reviews. I don't know what plan there is in mind for getting money to charities through this. Plus, there could be complications over who wrote what originally, if someone stole someone else's ideas, etc. And RateItAll shouldn't turn into a courthouse. Maybe that's a bit unrealistic, it's great to give money to charities, a considerable idea.

 | TheFreak (5) 10/12/2001 | I think this is a good idea for a couple of reasons (I didn't give it a five because it needs a pinch of revising). One, I would very much like to earn some money for some groups, one or two of my favorite AIDS charities, maybe the ACLU, orsomeone else. It would feel good to know I was helping just by writing a quality comment. Two, and most importantly: some people's comments just consist of "it's great" or "it sucked". By being able to earn money for their favorite charities, it could discourage them from leaving their spray-paint graffiti on the Rateitall walls. Maybe they would now be encouraged to write GOOD comments. Three: many reviewers leave thousands and thousands of reviews but no comments. If they were payed to write good reviews, they'd be encouraged to let out their opinions, which would make RIA more interesting. But what constitutes a "good" review? Maybe Rateitall should let us REVIEWERS decide what constitutes a good review. Hmmm, that could get interesting...take care, everyone!

 | abichara (66) 09/07/2001 | I believe that adding the ability to earn money for comments is simply wrong. This would severely lower the quality of the site. I know that the intentions are good since the money will go towards non-profit organizations, but putting money in front of reviewers would make a lot of people come on the site and leave reviews on things people either don't know a lot about or simply don't care about. The mission of the website is to provide unbiased information about issues and products. When a profit motive becomes involved, it will water down the impact of Rate-It-All.

 | Frank15 (0) 05/17/2001 | Well, this gets a little tougher than simply getting paid for writing good reviews... on the one hand, there's still the thought that you'd get the highest quality reviews by having nothing attached, simply to write reviews for the sake of writing reviews. On the other hand, the money isn't going to the writer of the review, but for a non-profit group that it could help... I would definitely implement this before paying the reviewer, but again, we don't want to make people feel guilty for leaving sub-standard reviews, that... but it's hard to argue against giving non-profit groups money as well... ARGH!

 | Wes D. (0) 02/02/2001 | I'm not really sure if this would encourage me to leave better comments, but it would be nice if my good comments did lead to a donation to the non-profit of my choice.

 | PoorOldEdgarDerby (4) 10/31/2000 | I think this falls into the same realm as paying people to leave good comments, you're paying them and therefore the comment losses its personal perspective. It's like paying someone to laugh as an extra on a television show, they're laughing whether it's funny or not because the humor of the show is not their motivation it's the cash. It doesn't matter if they recieve the cash themselves or it goes to charity they are doing it for a reward and are therefore biased.

 | magellan (179) 10/30/2000 | Sounds like a good idea. It seems to tie into that whole "good neighbor" / spirit of community thing that incents people to share their knowledge to the benefit of others.

 | Govinda (0) 10/30/2000 | Sure - it would be a good way to encourage people to leave quality comments. And when you can help worthwhile organizations at the same time, why not?
