We wouldn't have had the Magnificent Seven if they banned remakes. Of course we would have been spared Pamela Anderson in Barb Wire too, because that was a hilarious attempt to remake Casablanca. Not all the best movies are scripted for the cinema. A good 50% of movies draw on other sources to bring a story to the screen, be it the page, the stage, ripped from the headlines of real life and remakes or reinterpretations of other films. What counts is bringing something worthwhile to the project, a fresh perspective, an update for the modern age, a parody. There is one source of material that is yet to result in a film that wasn't completly crap - 70's TV shows.

In my opinion, its not so much the fact that the movie is a remake, its that its a remake of something that was shite to begin with. Seriously, does anyone really expect a remake of Miami Vice, the Brady Bunch, Mission Impossible, Dukes of Hazzard, or any of a host of other pieces of television dreck to be any better than the crap that inspired it? The same applies to remakes of movies.Honestly now, you don't see anyone making remakes of Rear Window, Chinatown or Citizen Kane do you? Not that I want any of those to happen, mind you.

I will admit that there have been a few remakes that have turned out ok. But I find that most of the time, when they try to remake movies and TV shows that are classics, in my opinion, they turn out to be flops. A lot of times, I think it has something to do with their choice of actors.

Come up with some NEW ideas ! You guys get paid too well to sit on yer duffs & make remakes. They're NEVER as good as the originals.

Remakes show nothing, but sheer laziness. I'm sick and tired of them. I think those studio execs need to get off their lazy butts, invest in some script editors or script readers and choose which scripts have potential. There are thousands of scriptwriters out there looking for a big break, but studio execs would rather re-hash a classic movie than invest in a new one. LAZY!

Let's see. This season it was Bewitched, The Honeymooners, War of the Worlds, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bad News Bears, The Love Bug, The Longest Yard, and I think the Pink Panther is supposed to come out sometime later this year. I mean, can we not think of some new ideas? When the best film of the season is a documentary about Penguins, you know something is wrong.

I don't mind remakes, only if the remake is horrible and sucks, at least there is the original to fall back on.
